Almost a year ago Caroline wrapped up her summer with us and we have been cheering her on ever since. Since then she's been living in Verona, Italy, studying communication, picking up some Italian, and exploring 9 countries across Europe. Now she's back at ALH for summer round two and we are SO excited to have her. Heading into senior year at the University of Cincinnati, she came back exactly as wonderful as she left, just with better stories and probably a great pasta recommendation. Welcome back, Caroline. Real talk. You can spend years building a cannabis business and still lose it all, not because of regulators or a bad harvest, but because you didn't plan for the unexpected.
In Ohio, a cannabis license is not property. It does not automatically pass to your spouse when you die. If an un-vetted person takes control, even a family member, the state can freeze the license while they go through a 6 month review process. And by the time that's done, your business may not survive the wait.

The attorneys had a meeting this morning. Over coffee and golf.
And honestly it made us think, golf is kind of a perfect stand-in for what it means to practice law. You step up and you have no idea what you're doing. You shank it. You look ridiculous. Then you get some coaching, you put in the reps, and one day you're hitting it 200 yards straight and wondering what all the fuss was about.
Nobody walks in knowing everything. That's why they call it a practice.
