How long are fiancé visa cases taking at the end of 2026?

Do not make the mistake of only looking at USCIS processing times.

The K-1 fiancé visa process has several steps.

First, the I-129F petition is reviewed by USCIS.

Then the approved petition goes to the National Visa Center.

After that, the case is sent to the U.S. embassy or consulate for the interview stage.

Each step has its own wait time.

Right now, many fiancé visa cases are taking around 16 months from start to finish, but every case is different. Some couples move faster, and others take longer.

Interviews are being canceled worldwide.

We know how upsetting this is. Couples wait months or years for these interviews. You may have already completed the medical exam, gathered documents, prepared for the interview, and made travel plans.

Right now, there has not been clear guidance on how long these cancellations will last or when interviews will be rescheduled.

For now, keep checking your email for messages from the embassy or consulate. That is where you should receive updates about your interview.

The 90 days start when you enter the United States on your K-1 visa.

Not when the visa is issued.

That means you need to enter before the visa expires, and then your 90-day window begins once you arrive.

During that 90-day period, you must marry your U.S. citizen fiancé and then prepare for the next step: adjustment of status.

This deadline matters. If you miss the visa expiration date or misunderstand when the 90 days begin, it can create serious problems for your case.

If you are trying to open a joint bank account, joint credit card, or other shared financial account, the rules usually depend on the bank or financial company.

Some couples who live apart are able to create joint accounts. Others are not. You will need to ask the financial institution what they require.

For the affidavit of support, the income requirement depends on household size.

At a minimum, household size usually includes the sponsor and the immigrant beneficiary. It may also include dependent children or other dependents listed on tax returns.

You then compare the household size to the current I-864P poverty guidelines to understand the income requirement.

That means longer separation, more stress, and more uncertainty for families who are trying to plan their future together.

If your I-130 petition has been pending for a long time, there may be options to consider.

You may be able to contact your congressional representative or senator for help.

In urgent situations, you may be able to request expedited processing.

If your case has been pending for an unreasonable amount of time, you may want to speak with an immigration attorney about whether a mandamus action could be an option.

These options are not guaranteed, but you should understand what may be available.

How long are marriage adjustment of status cases taking right now?

The truth is, timelines are all over the place.

Some couples receive their green card within a few months. Others wait more than a year.

Your timeline can depend on where you live, your USCIS field office, whether you receive a Request for Evidence, whether you have an interview, and whether your case has any issues that need more review.

We are also seeing some couples complete their marriage green card interview and then wait months for a decision.

If your case has been pending for more than a year with no meaningful action, you may have options. A mandamus action may be worth discussing with an immigration attorney.
