“Our prayers are extended to Ash for a full recovery from his extensive, catastrophic injuries. This simply never should have happened. We will work tirelessly to gather all information, history of the property and related complaints, witness testimony, and other information with the goal of holding those responsible accountable for this senseless tragedy, with the hope that this never happens to another child or teenager again,” said Founding Partner Antonio Romanucci.

The legal team representing the teenager includes Founding Partner Antonio Romanucci, Partner John R. Gorey and Attorney Isabella A. Mazzanti, with co-counsel, Minnesota Attorney Kevin C. Riach.

Romanucci & Blandin will commence a civil investigation into the tragic and preventable fall by a teenager at an out-of-service grain elevator in Minneapolis, MN. “Twenty seconds. Just twenty seconds from when Officer Walzer arrived on the scene to when he fired deadly shots. What’s important is that Derek was inside a vehicle, that vehicle was blocked in and couldn’t leave the scene, and other officers who arrived before Walzer appeared to be in a de-escalation mode. Walzer came in, predisposed to deadly force, stating multiple times with intensity and profanity that he was going to kill Derek. And he made good on those threats, in only twenty seconds,” said Antonio Romanucci, Founding Partner of Romanucci & Blandin.

The topic was immigration and human rights violations by ICE and CBP in many U.S. cities in the past year. The hearing was conducted by the Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, a multinational organization that includes the U.S., Central American and South American countries. Tony and others at the hearing urged the Commission to urge the U.S. to comply with Inter-American human rights laws.

Founding Partner Antonio Romanucci and Thomas Becker of University Network for Human Rights wrote an editorial in The Guardian about how they’re seeking help from outside of the United States to hold the administration accountable for civil rights violations from its policies:

We are constitutional law, civil rights, and human rights scholars and practitioners who have spent decades litigating government abuse cases in the United States. Despite the US legal system’s flaws, our work – from securing a record civil settlement for George Floyd’s family to holding Boliv...
