Beyond the role: When Juanita isn’t lawyering, she likes to garden, cook/ create recipes and stay involved in a variety of volunteer activities like political groups, bar associations, professional, diversity and alumni organizations.

Here’s a fun fact about Juanita:
Juanita is the proud third daughter of four daughters born to Mexican immigrant parents in south Texas. She grew up during the heyday of the civil rights movement, and Juanita yearned to be part of the legal system that brought justice to everyone in this country. That was her original inspiration to be a lawyer. Juanita came to see government as helpful to that cause in a variety of settings including as a protector, regulator and law enforcer on behalf of the community.

We’re grateful to have such a dedicated and multifaceted leader on our team!

Meet Outgoing Commissioner Gabriel Ramirez-Hernandez. An associate at Norton Rose Fulbright, Gabriel is valued for his legal writing, creativity, and strategic approach to all stages of litigation.

In his practice, Gabriel defends product manufacturers in state and federal courts across the country. And he still finds to represent litigants on a pro bono basis through the Pro Se Project, through the Office of the Minnesota Appellate Public Defender, and through various civil rights non-profit organizations.

Gabriel is a strategic leader who has created lasting programming through the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association and other local non-profits. Inspired by his mother who has long been a community leader in his hometown of Austin, Minnesota: “It does not take a law degree to give back. So many, like my mother, have made tangible changes in our community without one. But it is still so important to use my education and background to advance justice and equity every day.”

Stay tuned over the next few days to learn more about Gabriel's journey and contributions!
