Levin & Perconti just secured a $45.5 Million settlement against an Illinois CILA Group Home for the abuse of a resident.
Four years ago, a 27-year-old man with autism was beaten by his roommates inside the facility that was supposed to protect him. This was witnessed by staff members and then covered up. Then, they spent six days trying to pretend it didn't happen — until our client couldn't get out of bed.
He was life-flighted to a hospital with a traumatic brain bleed. He has spent the last four years in a nursing home, surrounded by residents two and three times his age, having lost the one thing he valued most: the ability to move on his own.
Now, he gets to go home.
Our team: Steven Levin, Mike Bonamarte, Margaret Battersby Black, Kelly Sabo Gaden, and Abigail Marshall, just secured the largest settlement in our firm's history and in Illinois history on his behalf.
This case was never just about what happened to this young man. It is about a system that had every opportunity to prevent it — in how it hired, how it trained, and how it supervised the staff responsible for his care.
He deserved better. And we fought to bring him home to his mom.
