The fact that the two-vehicle crash that took the life of Riley O'Neill happened in a bike lane next to a CPD station is unbelievably tragic. Any analysis of this preventable crash must include the presence of a giant semi-truck on a narrow stretch of Halsted Street and why Chicago is allowing this dynamic.

My most sincere thoughts and prayers go out to Riley's family, friends and co-workers at CDOT. Just heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Riley.

At Keating Law we are proud to once again sponsor the Active Transportation Alliance Bike Commuter Challenge — an annual event that celebrates the thousands of Chicagoans who choose to ride their bicycles to work, school, and throughout our communities every day.

Supporting the Bike Commuter Challenge is about more than sponsorship. It reflects Keating Law’s ongoing commitment to bicycle advocacy, safer streets, and protecting vulnerable road users across Chicagoland and throughout Illinois.

Every day, we represent injured bicyclists and work to hold negligent drivers accountable. But our commitment extends beyond the courtrooms. We strongly believe that safer infrastructure, better driver education, and increased respect for cyclists are essential to making Chicago a truly bike-friendly city.

We are honored to support the work of Active Transportation Alliance and the incredible community of riders, advocates, and organizations working to improve active transportation throughout Illinois.
