Below you’ll see my original review of Basics for a Biblical Worldview. We finished this course several years ago, and I haven’t changed my mind. In fact, I made sure both of my boys had copies to save for their future homes. I recommend this course to all my customers, and it is neat to hear back from other families who are now enjoying it together too! The course is written for 6th grade, but it would be great to go through as a family if your kids are anywhere near that age.

“My 7th grade son and I are loving this parent-led course. It really clarifies worldview issues, which is great because my son has lots of questions!

I love that we can read together and then have meaningful discussions that strengthen his faith. The student text is very thought-provoking and also relatable. The author illustrates concepts with stories and analogies that are easy to understand and even humorous. We use the workbook to dig into what the Bible really says about issues. Lessons leave us feeling equipped, encouraged, and hopeful.

My husband and I even purchased copies of this course to use with our junior high Sunday School class. Even if your child already knows the Bible, this course will help him apply his faith to everyday life. It will help him grow up and think clearly and be more prepared to live in our godless society.

Every Christian family should go through this course. It's good. It's really, really good.”

I really enjoyed hosting a BJU Press Homeschool curriculum display this past week!

🟠 I met more homeschool families and got to see the kids of moms I’ve met in the past.

🟠 I got to recommend my favorite products. (One of them is that Basics for a Biblical Worldview book pictured in the lower right corner. Fantastic content!)

🟠 I had a great discussion about parenting with one of the moms.

🟠 I got to discuss our phonics program. It’s really excellent, and it’s super fun too!

🟠 I was able to offer options for high school courses.

🟠 I explained what to expect in different courses. (That’s the 15 years of personal use coming in handy!)

🟠 I helped moms think through what they had planned so they didn’t bite off more than they could chew.

🟠 I applied discounts that helped families save hundreds on their orders.

🟠 I sent each family home with a free JourneyForth book. Yay for new books that are worth reading!

Even if you don’t live close enough to come to one of my events, I can still use technology to give you personalized homeschool help. Feel free to message me with your homeschool questions!

Before my event started yesterday, I asked my son to stand between the 11th and 12th grade books to represent how far he has come with BJU Press Homeschool. Look how much he has accomplished!

This week I placed my last personal curriculum order. I can’t believe we’re at this point. Senior year, here we come!l

The new school year is approaching, so let's talk about scheduling. While some moms seem to take pride in doing as little schoolwork as possible, others seem to take pride in completing every single part of the curriculum.

And while I want you to homeschool with excellence, I also want you to remember that bookwork is not the only element in your homeschool day. A well-rounded child needs to spend time with family and have time to play and read for pleasure. He needs to learn how to do things around the house. He needs time to exercise and time to pursue music or art. Bookwork is an important element of homeschooling, but it’s not the only element.

My advice? Just as God has dominion over his creation and has set a boundary for the seas, take dominion over your homeschool schedule and set limits for the different elements in it. Decide how long each subject should take and then stick to it. Choose an ending time for the bookwork portion of your day and say, “This far shall you go, and no farther.”

You may need to skip a few assignments, or your child may need to pick up where he left off tomorrow.

Have dominion. Use wisdom. Set limits. If you do, you’ll prevent the flood from overwhelming your family this year.

Are you in the market for a phonics program that's rock-solid? What if I told you it can be really fun too?

Back when I was in kindergarten, we had to learn the phonics rules by looking at the vowel-consonant patterns and then marking the vowels with either a breve for a short vowel or a macron for a long vowel. Yes, we learned phonics, but that method tended to be as engaging as reading the phone book. (Remember those?)

BJU Press Homeschool has made the process of learning phonics much more fun by adding stories about phonics characters. The vowels are usually ladies, and the consonants are men. If you see a pattern that ends in one vowel followed by one consonant (let's use the word cap for example), the a and the p are Mrs. Short and Mr. Short. They are married, and they are ALWAYS together. And yes, they are short. If you see this pattern, you know to say the short sound.

Some words just have one vowel after the consonant (like go). When you see a vowel by itself, it's usually Miss Long. She is very tall, and she isn't married. There is no consonant with her to close the syllable. If you see this pattern, you say the long vowel sound.

Miss Long has a friend with her sometimes. Miss Silent is very quiet. In fact, she never says a sound, and she lets Miss Long do all the talking. When you see these two ladies together (two vowels), say the long sound of the first vowel.

And sometimes there's a little dog that follows Miss Long. His name is Marker E. When you see an e at the end of a word, that signals that the vowel is Miss Long. You can turn the short-vowel word cap into the long-vowel word cape just by adding the e at the end.

Later on the kids will learn that suffixes such as -ing and -ed are cats. When a cat comes to join a word, Marker E runs away. The student now remembers to drop the e before spelling the word with a suffix.

There are a few more phonics characters, but you get the gist of it. These stories are much more fun and memorable than memorizing the uses of the macron and breve. Your kids will hear cute stories about the different characters working in the kitchen, going on a picnic, and more.

I flat-out love 😍 our kindergarten course, Focus on Fives! This course combines phonics, reading, handwriting, and English. These language arts skills are centered around science and social studies topics such as farming and firefighters. We have a separate course for math.

The phonics program is robust, and it’s super cute too. I think I’ll need to write a post about that soon so I can explain how it works. Your kids will have so much fun while getting a solid start to school.

And since BJU Press Homeschool begins with a biblical worldview, your kids will learn to praise God for His greatness and goodness. They will be encouraged to thank Him for the world He has made. They will learn that the Bible is God’s Word and is absolutely true. And they will be prompted to look for ways to serve both God and the people around them.

It’s a fantastic course! I used the older edition with my boys, and we loved it! The teacher’s edition walked me through what I needed to do each day. It was so easy to follow. But we also have video courses if you need some help with the teaching.

Which of you has used Focus on Fives with your own kids? Feel free to share your experience below!

People contact me for discounts on BJU Press Homeschool all the time. I gladly give those, but I also throw in something else for free.

When a customer tells me what he or she would like to order, I often tell that person what to expect in each course: how the phonics program works in kindergarten, my favorite writing assignments in English 6, or tips for doing proofs in high school geometry.

I’m not just someone who answers the phone and takes orders. I’m a mother who has 15 years of experience with this curriculum with her own kids.

I get it when you tell me about your struggles, and I am there to celebrate with you when you have victories. Even if you don’t have a single friend or family member who supports you in homeschooling, you have me. I will listen.

I will suggest ideas and help you modify the curriculum so that you can make accommodations that fit your family’s needs and also push each child to grow just a little bit more.

I am your homeschool ally. All year long.
