I’ve been thinking a lot about how many injury crashes in our area involve impaired driving. As someone who lives and works here in Santa Cruz County, I care deeply about keeping our community safe.

If you’re heading out, please make a plan for a sober ride. Look out for your friends, too—sometimes a quick check-in can prevent a serious crash.

When DUI-related injury crashes do happen, they create both criminal and injury-related issues. On the civil side, I help people understand what their rights look like after they’ve been hurt and what steps they can take to move forward.

Staying safe starts with simple choices, and our community is stronger when we look out for one another.

We know how important it is to work with someone who truly understands Santa Cruz County — from Capitola to Campbell and everywhere in between.

Our team is built around genuine, personal connection. As a local practice with deep roots in the community, we focus on the right clients and cases rather than operating like a high‑volume, out‑of‑town firm.

When people come to us after a motor vehicle accident, slip and fall, or wrongful death case, they meet with our attorney in person whenever possible. We bring serious trial and case experience without the factory‑style approach, and we take the time to understand each situation fully.

If you’ve worked with both local and non‑local firms, what differences have you noticed?

As October settles in and the days get shorter, our team at Pacific Coast Injury Lawyer is already seeing how quickly wet leaves, morning moisture, and cluttered walkways can create slip‑and‑fall risks around Santa Cruz and Capitola.

We spend a lot of time walking local storefronts, sidewalks, parking lots, rental properties, and community spaces, and this time of year small hazards can build up fast. A few simple habits can help keep everyone safer:

• Give yourself more time and watch for dark or shaded areas where moisture collects.
• Report uneven pavement, loose mats, or spills when you see them.
• Keep entryways and porches clear if you manage or maintain a property.
• Use railings whenever they are available, especially on damp mornings.

If someone is hurt in a fall, documenting the conditions right away can make a significant difference. Photos, witness names, and the exact location help preserve important details.

We are always here to answer questions or help you understand your options after an injury.

I have the privilege of working with many Spanish-speaking clients in our community. I want clients in Santa Cruz, Capitola, Watsonville, Hollister, Campbell, and nearby communities to feel comfortable coming to me with their questions after a motor vehicle accident, fall, or serious injury. When Spanish-speaking clients call me, they can share their story clearly and without a language barrier. I know how stressful these moments can be. My goal is to make sure victims feel heard and supported, and are able to understand every step of the legal process in their own language. If you or someone you know is dealing with an accident-related injury and prefers to communicate in Spanish, I am here to help. Let me know how I can support you.

When families have reached out to me after a preventable death, I know they are facing one of the hardest moments of their lives. I try to offer space, clarity, and support during a time that feels overwhelming.

When I talk about wrongful death cases, it is never about being aggressive or making promises. For me, it is about accountability, answers, and helping families understand the options available to them. Every situation is different, and every family deserves compassion and careful guidance.

If you or someone you care about is navigating an unexpected loss, you are not alone. I am here to help you understand what steps may be available and to talk through your questions at your own pace.

Labor Day weekend is always a busy one here in Santa Cruz County, especially with beach traffic, Highway 17 backups, and everyone heading out to celebrate. If you’re getting behind the wheel, please plan ahead and make sure you’ve got a safe ride home. And if you’re out on the road, watch for impaired or distracted drivers as the long weekend can bring out more of both.

My goal is to help keep our community safe, and a little extra awareness goes a long way. Wishing you a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

If you commute over Highway 17, you know how fast things can change on the road. If you’re ever in a crash, here are a few simple steps I recommend:

• Get medical attention right away, even if you feel "okay."
• Report the crash to CHP so there’s an official record.
• Take photos if it’s safe to do so.
• Exchange insurance information with everyone involved.
• Be careful with insurance statements until you understand your rights.

I’ve driven Highway 17 for years, and I meet clients in person right here in Santa Cruz County and at my office in Campbell. If you have questions about a Highway 17 crash, feel free to reach out and I’m happy to talk through your situation.

Unfortunately, dog bite cases are part of the work I handle in the community, and staying informed helps keep everyone safer. A few simple habits make a big difference for both families and dog owners.

Keeping dogs leashed in busy spaces helps everyone feel more comfortable, and it also gives you better control if your dog gets startled. It also helps to watch for common body‑language cues like stiff posture, tucked tails, or prolonged staring. These can be early signs a dog needs more space.

For families out walking or playing, giving unfamiliar dogs a little room and asking before approaching can help avoid misunderstandings. Most dogs are friendly; they just appreciate clear boundaries.

And if a bite does happen, getting proper medical attention and documenting the injury is important.

What tips do you use to keep shared spaces calm and enjoyable for people and pets?

We are lucky to live in a beautiful place where people are frequently out enjoying the natural beauty. Bikes and e-bikes are everywhere these days. As helpful and convenient as biking can be, it is important to keep safety at top of mind.

A few reminders : always wear a helmet, ride predictably, and pay extra attention around driveways and intersections where visibility drops fast. If a crash does happen, document injuries, damage, and the scene as soon as it is safe to do so. As laws and rules surrounding e-bikes, safety, and insurance coverage continue to evolve, it is important to contact an attorney quickly if an accident or injury involving and e-bike occurs.

Our community depends on all of us looking out for one another. What safety tips would you add?

Even though school is starting, summer crowds are still heavy in the village and along local paths, which also means more potential hazards. This is a quick reminder to everyone to take it slow out there.

A few quick tips to keep things safe when you are out and about:

• Watch your footing on stairs, ramps, and walkways, especially if there’s sand, water, spills, loose debris, or uneven pavement
• Be extra careful near restaurant patios and outdoor dining areas, where drinks, food, and water can make surfaces slippery
• Slow down when moving between different surfaces, such as stepping off a curb, onto a ramp, or from pavement to tile.
• If you spot a hazard, give others a heads-up when you can. Looking out for one another helps keep our community safer.

Most injuries are preventable with small adjustments, but if someone is seriously injured because a property hazard wasn’t taken care of, it may be worth getting legal guidance to understand next steps.

Stay safe out there!
