$1.3 million jury verdict on behalf of our client: Jose Luis Sanchez—a longtime Room Service Captain at one of the Walt Disney Company’s most exclusive hotels—was harassed, discriminated, and retaliated against because of his age and his complaints reporting the misconduct. Throughout a decades-long career, Mr. Sanchez maintained a spotless employment record and devoted his professional life to Disney.
Leading up to his wrongful termination, Mr. Sanchez made numerous HR reports about Disney continuously threatening his position if he did not retire or take a demotion. The conduct escalated each time he reported harassment and discrimination. The jury heard how this campaign of age bias and retaliation took a serious toll on his daily life, yet Mr. Sanchez continued to show up for his team and guests.
“This verdict sends a clear message: longstanding experience is an asset and reporting unlawful conduct should never cost someone their job. We are deeply grateful to the jurors who held Disney accountable for its conduct. After a lifetime of dedicated service, Mr. Sanchez deserved respect—not intimidation, retaliation, or a manufactured reason for termination. This verdict reaffirms that no employer, no matter how large, is above the law.” - Adriana Burga
