Crumbl Cookies, a Utah-based franchise of cookie bakeries, has violated child labor regulations in six states, affecting 46 minor-aged workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

A federal investigation into the child labor violations found that 11 operators in six states allowed young employees, “many 14 and 15 years of age,” to work more than the law permits or in “hazardous or prohibited occupations,” a press release states.

California will stop making companies pay employees who can't work because they caught the coronavirus while on the job.

For the past two years, California workplace regulators have tried to slow the spread of the coronavirus by requiring infected workers to stay home while also guaranteeing them they would still be paid.

The bitter negotiations that nearly brought the country’s freight rail system to a halt last week hinged on one quality of life issue: worker leave.

Rail workers nearly went on strike over paid sick leave. They lost their fight, but in the post-pandemic era, the issue of how and when workers can take leave from their jobs is at the core of several major labor negotiations.

Railroad workers may have lost their fight for paid sick leave, but sick and family leave, and other quality of life issues are top union demands post pandemic.

A restaurant business coalition announced on Monday that it has gathered enough signatures to challenge a new California law that would create a state-backed labor council to set pay and working conditions for the fast-food industry.

Save Local Restaurants, a coalition opposing the law, said it filed more than 1 million signatures to postpone the law and place a referendum on the November 2024 ballot.

New wage laws in California and New York City may compel employers to take steps when sponsoring employment-based immigrants that go beyond Department of Labor (DOL) regulations. The issue has received virtually no attention, but the October 2021 DOL-Department of Justice (DOJ) fine against Facebook shows complying with one government rule does not protect employers against other government enforcement actions.

New wage laws in California and New York City will complicate applications for employers sponsoring employment-based immigrants.

Research has ground to a halt across the University of California (UC) as tens of thousands of postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and non-faculty academic staff members have gone on strike.

Since 14 November, around 48,000 academic workers across UC — which has 10 campuses and nearly 300,000 students — have stopped their research and joined protests calling for increased pay and better working conditions, in what they say is the largest higher-education strike in US history.

Workers across the University of California’s ten campuses are demanding higher pay, childcare subsidies and stronger protection against harassment.

A new California law will ensure that workers continue to enjoy their health benefits even during labor disputes.

Taking effect in July 2023, the legislation aims to end employers’ practice of freezing health insurance benefits to more easily persuade workers to concede to management’s demands, reported Kaiser Health News.

Fewer than 5,000 workers will be affected, labor groups estimate
