Starting October 1st, we honor those who have been impacted by breast cancer. 1 in 8 women develop breast cancer in their lifetime, making it the most common cancer amongst women. This month seeks to educate women on signs to look out for, where they can seek help, and connect them with stories of survivors. We here at Great Lakes Family Probate & Estates feel deeply for those impacted by breast cancer. Whether you have received a recent diagnosis, are in an ongoing battle, or have survived; we hear you and see you. You are not alone in your fight, and we wish the best for you and your family. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, attacks the nervous system and detroys nerve cells in control of muscle movement. Diagnosis can take months, and once you are diagnosed, the average life expectancy is anywhere from 2 to 5 years. Great Lakes Family Probate & Estates hopes that with our contributions, along with many others, that a cure to ALS can be found. If you could not make the walk, but still wish to make a difference, donations for ALS research can be made to the ALS association at als.org. The only way to help keep hope alive is through us all doing our part.

Every second Monday of September is a holiday called “I’m On Top of it” Day. It celebrates the start of a new school year, and families working hard to keep their daily lives running smoothly. On this day, pat yourself on the back for the little things: getting the kids to school on time, planning out dinner, even calling the doctor to schedule your yearly check up; nothing is off limits. While this is just one day, we here at Great Lakes Family Probate & Estates are “on top of it” every day so we can serve our clientele to the best of our ability. Dolly Parton once built a career singing about working "9 to 5."
But behind the rhinestones was also a remarkably successful businesswoman who spent decades building a legacy.

This week, the world is remembering the music. Estate-planning attorneys notice something else, too:
