Thunderstorms prevented us from paddling all nine miles of our Broad River Shoals Lily Adventure Saturday, but the bad weather did hold off long enough for us to make an upstream trip to Anthony Shoals to see the lilies and the ruins of the Broad River Manufacturing Company dating to the 1840s. Critters, beautiful flowers and lots of cool history all wrapped up at Anthony Shoals!

Georgia Rivers is excited to partner with Dalton State College to bring to bring more than dozen students on Paddle Georgia 2026, taking place June 14-20 on the Coosawattee and Oostanaula rivers. Last week, some of the participating students joined Georgia Rivers River Program Coordinator Andrew Kraft and Paddle Georgia Coordinator Joe Cook for a kayaking skills training at Haig Mill Lake Park in Dalton. They're now ready to rumble down the Oostanaula June 18-20!

If you are joining Georgia Rivers for Paddle Georgia 2026, here's a sampling of photographs from a recent scouting trip of part of Day 1 and Day 2 of this year's route on the Coosawattee River. Day 2 is filled with numerous Class II rapids/shoals followed by a 5-6-mile lake paddle (sorry!) Hopefully, these images will give you a feel for what to expect! Of course, water levels will have a major impact on this section and we will closely watch water levels up until June 15 when we run this section.

Here's a few images from today's Georgia Rivers National Safe Boating Week Kayaking 101 class at Kellogg Creek Day Use Area on Lake Allatoona. We introduced 16 members of Refugee Womens Network to kayaking--most for the first time. Participants hailed from at least seven different countries! Georgia Rivers led a Kayaking 101 training as part of National Safe Boating Week today at Lake Allatoona for members of Refugee Womens Network. Here's just some of the reaction from our participants who hailed from Mexico, Bhutan, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Reactions in both Spanish and English!

National Safe Boating Week Kayaking 101 training has begun with Refugee Womens Network at Lake Allatoona! Incredible group of women from across the globe learning to kayak for the first time! Countries represented include Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Bhutan and Afghanistan.

Thank you to Ted Turner for all he did for our planet. His passion for the natural world and his generosity putting his resources into conservation efforts have made a huge difference for the environment and for Georgia's waterways. Turner Foundation provided Georgia Rivers over the last 25 years with over a million dollars in funds that both supported our operations and growth as well as funds we distributed to other groups and coalitions. Rest now, in peace.

Ted Turner, the media maverick and philanthropist who founded CNN, a pioneering 24-hour network that revolutionized television news, died peacefully Wednesday, surrounded by his family, according to a news release from Turner Enterprises. He was 87.
