Each year Arcadia Rotary installs 1,000 flags at the Arcadia County Park and sells “sponsorships” for each flag. You can honor someone who has served in the military and for the past 11 years, I’ve honored my father, Cletus R. Verlato who served in the Army in WWII. This year, I also honored his best friend who served in the navy during WWII. They were lifelong friends and Rudolph was like family to me. Rudolph continued his service after WWII by volunteering countless hours to Veterans Affairs. Field of Honor 2026

Congratulations to my son Andrew who graduated ftom UC Berkeley with honors this weekend! The yellow sash is from his honor society for engineering which the best students are invited to join. Andy graduated in the top 3% of his class, basically top 30 of about 1000 in Engineering. He had 2 commencements, the first in the stadium with all graduates, about 8,500 and then a second just for Engineering, about 1000. He earned his degree in the very prestigious and elite Electrical Engineering-Computer Sciences, only about 300 graduates. These are the rockstars of the Engineering department, considered the best computer sciences program in the US. Hard to believe all of his dreams are coming true. And we got to crlebrate with our nextdoor neighbors from Pasadena whose son also went to Berkeley and graduated in Physics! !
