Catherine Ken has over 30 years of experience in law practice. As one of the few attorneys licensed to practice in both the United States and Taiwan, Catherine’s education and experience in both countries give her practice a unique multicultural flavor that is a rare benefit to clients on two continents. She attended the National Taiwan University Law School. Upon graduating in 1986 and passing the bar exam, Catherine, at age 22, was the youngest practicing attorney in Taiwan.
But Catherine’s law studies did not end there. In 1991, she earned a LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School where she studied corporate and business law with a concentration in mergers and acquisitions. She now practices in Los Angeles where she helps businesses and individuals from Asian countries with legal matters including international transaction, business law, tax law, and estate planning.
Catherine has represented large corporations in both the United States and Asian countries. During her practice at Lee and Li, the largest law firm in Taiwan, she handled joint venture negotiations for companies such as Ford and Conoco. Recently in Los Angeles, she represented Chinese language television content providers to establish their presence in the United States via cable and satellite systems.
Benefiting from China’s economic rise in recent years, many of Catherine’s clients have accumulated personal wealth and requested cross-border wealth planning. As Catherine understands the cultural implications on legal systems in the USA, China and Taiwan, she has planned large number of estates involving assets worldwide.
Catherine is dedicated to educating the Chinese American community in Southern California. She served as president of the Taiwanese American Lawyers Association in 2000~2001 and during her tenure as president, organized gatherings that provided information on consumer protection, crime prevention, tax law and other related topics of interest within the Chinese American community.
Catherine’s experience in cross-border transaction and planning and tie to the USA and Chinese business communities provides a valuable asset to her clients in the USA, China and Taiwan.
