As part of our ongoing monthly giving commitment, our August donation went to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. August's charitable contribution was made possible by a generous client who chose to dedicate a portion of their accident settlement to a charitable cause. Together with our client, we selected this wonderful organization to support.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides free books each month to children from birth to age five, helping inspire a lifelong love of reading regardless of family income. Attorney Mike Glisson had a great time hanging out and recording scores at this year’s Harvest Classic Pickleball Tournament, hosted by One More Game Pickleball Club in Edwardsville, IL.

He had the chance to meet some great people, watch some awesome games and help support a great club that has such a positive impact in the community.

Great job to all players and shoutout to theomgpc (One More Game Pickleball Club) for always hosting such outstanding events.

Putting your feet on the dashboard might feel comfortable during a long drive, but in a crash, that position can turn dangerous in an instant. 🚗⚠️

A passenger sitting with their feet on the dashboard can suffer devastating injuries if the vehicle crashes and the airbags deploy. Airbags are designed to protect occupants who are sitting properly with their feet on the floor. When your legs are elevated, the force of an airbag can drive the legs and feet back toward the face and upper body.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that airbags deploy in a fraction of a second and can cause serious injuries when occupants are out of position. And there is another risk: your legs can interfere with the airbag's intended path or your body can move into an unsafe position before the airbag has a chance to protect you.

If you're riding in the passenger seat, keep both feet on the floor, wear your seat belt properly, and sit upright with your back against the seat. It might not be as comfortable, but it could make a major difference when you need your vehicle's safety systems most.

🌾🚜 Harvest season is here, and that means more farm equipment will be traveling on Illinois and Missouri roads.

Getting equipment safely from one field to another is an important part of harvest, but large agricultural equipment can create serious hazards when sharing the roadway with regular traffic. Farmers and equipment operators should make sure their equipment is properly marked and equipped before heading onto public roads.

🚜 Use the required slow moving vehicle emblem. In both Illinois and Missouri, qualifying slow moving equipment traveling on public highways must display the appropriate slow moving vehicle emblem.
💡 Make sure required lights and reflectors are working. Depending on the equipment and circumstances, state law requires specific lighting and visibility equipment.
🚜 Know your equipment's width. Illinois has specific requirements for certain overwidth farm equipment, including requirements involving lighting, flags, and other safety measures.
↔️ Be aware of your surroundings. Large equipment can have significant blind spots and may need to make wide turns or move across the roadway to enter a field or driveway.
⚠️ Use extra caution when entering or crossing roads. Make sure you have enough time and visibility before entering the roadway.

Texting. Talking. Eating. Reaching for something in the back seat. Even putting on makeup while behind the wheel. These may seem like small distractions, but taking your attention away from the road for even a few seconds can have serious consequences. 🚗

Illinois law prohibits drivers from operating a motor vehicle on a roadway while using an electronic communication device, including texting, accessing social media, watching videos, or participating in video calls. Hands free and certain other limited uses are permitted under the law.

But distracted driving is about more than your phone. Anything that takes your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel, or your attention away from driving can increase the risk of a crash.

When you are behind the wheel, give driving your full attention. Put the phone down, finish your breakfast before you leave, wait until you arrive to touch up your makeup, and let your passengers wait if something can wait.

When you are injured in an accident, time can matter more than you realize.

Waiting to speak with a lawyer can make it harder to protect important evidence. Security footage may be overwritten. Vehicles can be repaired or moved. Road conditions can change. Witnesses can become more difficult to locate or may forget important details about what they saw.

The longer you wait, the more opportunities there may be for evidence to disappear or circumstances to change. That does not mean every case is lost because you did not immediately hire an attorney. But contacting a lawyer sooner rather than later can give your legal team an opportunity to investigate while the evidence is still available.
