Time for another Fun Fact Friday! It is believed that Alton is so haunted because so many of the historic buildings in town were built from limestone that was originally part of the state prison where many inmates died during the Civil War due to the smallpox epidemic. The porous limestone was thought to have absorbed the haunted spirits, which were then spread throughout town. What do you think?

My first roommate was my brother Dean. He the oldest of 4; I the youngest. Until his last breath a few days ago, he was the kindest, happiest person I have ever known. Life could throw him the worst possible situation and he would laugh, make a terrible joke and figure out how to make the best of it all. His resiliency was remarkable. I swear, if you cut off his right arm and both legs, he would boast that he could still wear a watch, even if he couldn't wind it. He was generous to a fault. He showered people with genuine love and friendship. Thankfully for me, his tolerance and forgiveness was limitless. Deano taught me how to stand up for myself. When i was being bullied at a young age, he taught me to stand my ground. I didnt have to win the fight, I only had to hurt the other guy. "kick him, bite him, whatever, just hurt him enough so he never wants to mess with you again." Its a lesson I probably learned too well. Still, he was proud of me and he didn't hide it. People tell you their proud and you smile and hope its real. With him it was always real. Half the stories he told were ridiculous, full of bu****it and larger than life....we all knew it and we didn't care. It was the joyous listening to him. You couldn't help but love him. He was adorable. He was sweet. He was the wonderfully imperfect and still he was the perfect big brother. I will think about you every day. Tell mom I said hi. Forever, your "little bro".
