Girl...was last night crazy or what?!

Every year I leave Salute to Sisters in Service with a full heart, but this year felt different. Bigger. Stronger. Special.

These women are our sisters. Our tribe. The people who just get it. The ones who understand military service, sacrifice, transition, leadership, and the sometimes messy journey that comes after taking off the uniform.

A huge shoutout to our incredible committee. What people see is a few hours of networking and inspiration. What they don't see are the months of planning, Zoom calls, meetings, emails, problem-solving, and teamwork that make this event possible. I am grateful to serve alongside such an amazing group of women veterans.

And wow... Shirley Baez absolutely brought it. Her message was powerful, authentic, and exactly what so many women in that room needed to hear.

One of my favorite parts of the evening was meeting so many first-time attendees who found us through Eventbrite. We even had a woman veteran travel from New York just to be there. That blew me away.

The growth of this event has been phenomenal. More than once last night, people mentioned that we may have outgrown the venue. What an incredible problem to have.

Watching women veterans connect, share stories, exchange numbers, laugh, support one another, and build community reminds me why this event matters so much.

My soul is full.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and supported Salute to Sisters in Service. You made it unforgettable.

At Chad Barr Law, we are thankful to participate as the t-shirt sponsor each year. Our shirt said it perfectly:

"Never Underestimate a Woman with a DD214."

See you next year.

A VA denial does not always mean “no.” Sometimes it means the VA did not have the right evidence, the claim was not clearly connected to service, or the rating decision missed how severe the condition really is. And sometimes, honestly, it means the veteran needs someone to take a closer look.

When we talk with veterans about disability appeals, a few questions come up all the time. Was your claim denied? Did you receive a rating that feels too low? Did the VA overlook medical records? Were you denied service connection? Did your condition get worse after your last rating decision? Are you dealing with secondary conditions that were never considered?

These details matter. A veteran dealing with back pain may also have radiculopathy. A veteran with PTSD may also be dealing with sleep issues, migraines, or other related symptoms. A knee injury may affect the hips, back, or mobility over time. One condition can often create or worsen another, and that can change how a claim should be reviewed.

The VA process can feel like a wall of paperwork, but the key is knowing what to look for in the decision. Sometimes one question can help a veteran realize the fight may not be over.

Another great day with Leadership Seminole!

It’s an honor to be surrounded by leaders who are passionate about making a difference in our community. The relationships built here go far beyond the program—they help shape stronger organizations and a stronger Seminole County.

Looking forward to what we continue to accomplish together.

A lot of people meet law firms for the first time when something has already gone wrong.
An accident.
A denied claim.
A stressful situation they did not see coming.

That is why we believe showing up in the community matters.
Not just online.
Not just when someone needs legal help.
But at events, in conversations, and around the people we serve.

At Chad Barr Law, we work with veterans, first responders, injury clients, and families who are often dealing with a lot more than paperwork.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply be present, answer questions, and make people feel a little less overwhelmed.

That is the kind of firm we try to be.
Approachable.
Useful.
And ready when people need us.

A lot of people think personal injury means car accidents.
And yes, we handle those.

But lately, we’ve seen more cases where someone gets hurt at a store, restaurant, parking lot, or business.
Someone slips.
Something falls.
A walkway is unsafe.
A spill sits too long.
A hazard gets ignored until someone gets hurt.

People hear “slip and fall” and think it sounds simple.
It is not.
These cases can get complicated fast.

The big questions are usually:
Did the business know about the problem?
Should they have known?
Was there video?
Were there witnesses?
Did anyone make an incident report?
How long was the hazard there?

That is why waiting can be a problem.
Video can disappear.
Employees forget.
The scene gets cleaned up.
And the story gets harder to prove.

So if someone gets hurt at a business, do not just assume it is “probably nothing.”
Take pictures.
Report it.
Get medical care if you need it.
And ask questions early.

That part matters more than people realize.

VETERAN OF THE MONTH
Retired U.S. Army First Sergeant Baez spent more than 20 years leading in high-pressure environments, from the 82nd Airborne Division to Army Special Operations.

Today, she continues that mission as a leadership strategist, speaker, author, mentor, and founder of LeadHERship Academy.

Her story is one of service, resilience, leadership, and impact, and it is absolutely worth reading. Continue to full bio: https://chadbarrlaw.com/nominate-your-veteran-of-the-month/
