Here’s something a lot of people don’t know: you are not locked into the attorney you started with. I recently heard from someone hurt in a crash near Santa Fe who felt his case had stalled. His calls went unreturned and he had no sense that anyone was fighting for him. When someone’s already represented, I’m careful to give only honest, unbiased information so they can make their own decision, whether that’s staying with their current lawyer, finding a different one, or moving forward with me. The choice is always theirs. But it IS a choice. You hired someone to fight for you. You deserve someone who does.

Always good to be in the same room as old friends doing important work. 🤝

Today I joined a lunch hosted by the ACLU of New Mexico and its Executive Director, Leon Howard alongside my colleague Michael Duran, representing Singleton Schreiber and our NM Managing Partner, Brian S. Colón.

We spent the afternoon with Leon's litigation team, including Legal Director María Martínez Sánchez, one of the few Latinas leading in that space and with that title in the entire country, and Deputy Legal Director Kristin Greer Love, one of the fiercest defenders of the New Mexico Civil Rights Act in the state. They walked us through the fights we're in right now: defending immigrants against an aggressive federal posture, protecting and expanding reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights, and standing up for the civil liberties of every New Mexican. It was nothing short of inspiring.

Singleton Schreiber is proud to stand among the ACLU of New Mexico's Justice Partners and to work as a cooperating law firm with them. Protecting people's rights under the law is work we believe in deeply - and we're in the fight!

Part 2 of the series with New Mexico Safety Over Profit is up. The closing thought from this video is one I believe deeply: essential services should serve communities, not investors. I’ve spent my career — in uniform, as a federal prosecutor, and now as a trial lawyer for New Mexicans who’ve been hurt — believing the people with the least leverage deserve someone in their corner. Almost nothing in this state carries less leverage than your relationship with the company that keeps your lights on. The proposed Blackstone acquisition of PNM’s parent company is still pending before the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission and additional federal regulators. Pay attention. Ask the questions. This one matters.

Today is Memorial Day.

Not Veterans Day. Not Armed Forces Day. Memorial Day. It's set aside for the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.

This year, I am thinking especially of two friends and brother officers: CDR Seth Stone, United States Navy, and Maj Toby Lewis, United States Marine Corps. Both were exceptional officers. Both were better men. I carry them with me.

To every Gold Star family — your loved ones are not forgotten.

There's a pattern worth paying attention to — and it's now arrived in New Mexico. I partnered with New Mexico Safety Over Profit to talk through what private equity in our utilities could mean for everyday families here. You can't opt out of electricity. You can't shop around for another power grid. So when a firm like Blackstone proposes to buy PNM — a deal still being weighed by our state regulators — it's fair to ask hard questions. This is Part 1 of the series. Part 2 coming soon.

The U.S. Supreme Court just changed truck crash law and it’s a win for victims. On May 14, 2026, the Court ruled unanimously, 9-0, that freight brokers can be sued under state negligence law for hiring unsafe trucking companies. This ends a federal preemption shield the industry used for decades to avoid responsibility. Here’s what that means in plain terms: behind most freight shipments is a broker who chooses which trucking company hauls the load. For years, brokers argued they couldn’t be sued when they hired a dangerous carrier that caused a crash. That argument is over. The ruling applies in all 50 states. More defendants. More accountability. More recovery for the people who were hurt. If you or someone you love has been seriously injured in a truck collision, you may have more options than you think. The call is always free.

When an insurance adjuster calls with a first settlement offer after a car accident in New Mexico, it almost always sounds generous. That’s by design. Their job is to close your file as cheaply and quickly as possible — ideally before you’ve finished medical treatment and before you know the full extent of your injuries.

Here’s what most people don’t realize about personal injury claims in New Mexico. Your damages aren’t just the ER bill. They can include:

• Past and future medical expenses
• Lost wages and loss of earning capacity
• Pain and suffering — the real human cost of being hurt

An offer made two weeks after a wreck is an offer to settle a case nobody has finished diagnosing yet. That’s why the first offer is almost never the real number.

If you’ve been hurt in a car accident in Albuquerque or anywhere in New Mexico, please — get a free case evaluation before you sign anything.

Driving home from what was probably my last drill weekend in my current role with the New Mexico Air National Guard.

A few weeks ago I learned I’d been selected for a new position — one with greater responsibility and a bigger seat at the table advising leadership. Humbling doesn’t quite cover it. Public service has been the through-line of my entire career — Marine officer, federal prosecutor, plaintiff’s lawyer fighting for injury victims, and now this next chapter in uniform.

Different roles. Same mission: show up for people who need someone in their corner. Grateful for the road behind me. Ready for what’s ahead.

One of the biggest mistakes I see after a car accident in Albuquerque is people giving recorded statements to the other driver’s insurance adjuster within a day or two of the wreck. You are NOT required to do that in New Mexico — and a single sentence said while you’re still in shock can be used to shrink the value of your claim months later.

Why does the adjuster call so fast? Because injuries often don’t fully show up right away. Soft tissue injuries, concussions, and disc injuries can take days or weeks to surface. An early recorded statement gives the insurance company a tool to argue later that your symptoms “weren’t really from the accident.”

Your move: get the claim number, give your name, tell them your attorney will follow up. That’s it.

If you were hurt in a wreck anywhere in New Mexico, talk to a personal injury lawyer before you talk to an adjuster. Call me.
