Address registration is required to renew your residence permit in Turkey.

Foreigners are required to submit address registration document, utility bill in their name and UETS form when they renew their Turkish residence permit. They need to download the address registration document on edevlet website https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/nvi-yerlesim-yeri-ve-diger-adres-belgesi-sorgulama.

In the first-time residence permit application in Turkey, it is enough to provide notarized rent contract or a notarized sponsorship letter from a Turkish citizen (taahhütname) as your address document. During the renewal of your Turkish residence permit, foreigners need to submit extra address documents such as address registration document, utility bill and UETS form.

Foreigners can register their address at immigration office by getting an appointment on the immigration website https://randevu.goc.gov.tr/. They need to go to the appointment with a notarized rent contract and a utility bill in their name (electricity, water or gas) in order to get their address registered. After their address is registered, they can download the address registration form at https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/nvi-yerlesim-yeri-ve-diger-adres-belgesi-sorgulama.

UETS form shows your contact detail and it can be generated from the website of PTT https://ptt.etebligat.gov.tr/. You can login to the PTT Etebligat website with your edevlet credentials and download your UETS form. In order to be able to download UETS form, you need to verify your phone number and email address.

Four Steps to Get a Turkish Family Residence Permit: 2026 Immigration Guide

The steps of getting a Turkish family residence permit are coming to Turkey with a valid visa, making an online application, completing required documents and submitting the file at the immigration office.

Foreigner can enter Turkey without visa if they are visa exempt. If they require visa to enter Turkey, foreigner can enter Turkey with tourist visa or family unification visa. Family residence permit application can only be done while the foreigner is in Turkey. After the foreigner enters Turkey, they need to make an online family residence permit application at the immigration website e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr. They will fill in the online application form, choose the appointment date and appointment place.

The main required documents for family residence permit are marriage certificate, criminal certificate, population office records and address documents. The foreigner needs to prepare all these documents. Then, the foreigner and the Turkish sponsor need to go to the immigration office at the appointment time with all the documents. Required Documents for the Turkish Family Residence Permit Application in 2026

Turkey gives family residence permit to foreigners who are the spouse or the children of Turkish citizens. Also, spouse and children of foreigners with a work permit can apply to Turkish family residence permit. There are required documents from the foreigner and also from the Turkish citizen when they apply for the Turkish family residence permit and I explain all of them one by one.

The foreigner needs to make an application for the Turkey family residence permit online at the website of immigration office e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr. They need to print out the online application form. The foreigners need to go to the Turkish family residence permit appointment with passport copy, visa copy, entry stamp copy, residence permit tax payment, health insurance (private health insurance or sgk insurance), two photos and the document showing the family relationship with the Turkish citizen.
If foreigners enter Turkey without visa, they need to provide the 9234 single entry visa tax receipt when they apply for the residence permit. Turkish Citizenship by Birth: Children of Turkish Father or Turkish Mother become citizen of Turkey.

Children who were born to a Turkish mother or a Turkish father can become a Turkish citizen by birth automatically. Important consideration for Turkish citizenship is the citizenship of the parents, not where the child is born. A child that is born in Turkey doesn’t get Turkish citizenship automatically. One of his parents should be Turkish citizen at the time of birth. At the same time, a child that is born out of Turkey to a Turkish mother or a Turkish father can apply for the Turkish citizenship. So, Turkish citizenship passes by blood, not by the territory.

The citizenship of the child is granted if the mother is Turkish whether the mother is married or not, because it is 100% certain that the child is from that mother. However, if the father of the child is Turkish, then either the child should be born within a marriage or the Turkish father should acknowledge the child in order to be eligible to apply to Turkish citizenship for the child.

Turkish Family Residence Permit Eligibility Criteria in 2026: Spouse and Children of Turkish Citizen

Spouse and children of Turkish citizens are eligible to apply for family residence permit in Turkey. The children have to be below 18 years old in order to apply for Turkish family residence permit and the spouse needs to have an official marriage with the Turkish citizen. The family of foreigners who have a work permit in Turkey are also eligible to apply for family residence permit in Turkey.

Turkish family residence permit is given up to 3 years and it can be renewed if the family conditions are met. Only spouse and children below 18 years old of a Turkish citizens can apply for family residence permit in Turkey. Also, the spouse and children below 18 years old of a Turkish work permit holder foreigner are eligible to apply for the family residence permit up to the expiration date of the work permit. You need to make careful research about the current immigration policy of Turkey to choose the right type of residence permit. This video explains the 2026 status of touristic residence permit, property residence permit, business residence permit, university student residence permit and Turkish language course residence permit in Turkey.

Turkish Touristic residence permits are mostly rejected in the first time application of the foreigners. It is also risky to make a renewal application for Tourist Residence Permit, because it might be rejected as well. According to our observations, the Turkish tourist residence permit of Ukrainian and Palestinian applicants are being accepted in 2026.

Turkish property residence permit is given if foreigner owns a property that is valued above $200,000. Also, you property has to be in a neighborhood that is open to residence permit applications. The property value on the title deed should be above $200,000 and the property valuation report is also needed at the immigration appointment.

Turkish business residence permit is given to foreigners who come to Turkey with business visa. Foreigners need to get an invitation letter from a Turkish company to be eligible to apply for the business residence permit. Usually, business residence permit is given with 6 months duration.

Turkish university student residence permit is given to international students who study higher education program at a university. Very important rule is that the student needs to have an active student letter from the university to be eligible to apply for the student residence permit in Turkey. If they don’t have an active student letter, then the immigration might not accept the residence permit application.

Turkish Residence Permit Application Guide for Foreigners in 2026

Foreigners have to apply to residence permit if they want to stay beyond their visa duration in Turkey. Residence permit is the only way of a Turkish visa extension in order not to be in overstay status. Here is the step by step guide for the Turkish residence permit application.

First of all, you need to choose the Turkish residence permit type such as touristic residence permit, family residence permit, university student residence permit or Turkish language course residence permit. Your visa type needs to be compatible with your residence permit type, for example you can apply to Turkish language course residence permit if you enter Turkey with Turkish language course visa only. After you identify the right residence permit type for you, you need to make an online residence permit application at e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr to fill in the form and get a residence permit appointment. In Istanbul, you can choose the appointment location, but the appointment date is determined by the immigration office.

When you complete your online residence permit application, you need to prepare your documents and submit them to the immigration office at your appointment date. These are the common documents for all Turkish residence permit types: passport copy, visa copy, entry stamp copy, biometric photo, residence permit tax payment, residence permit card payment, health insurance, address document. Also, you need to provide the specific document required by your residence permit type, for example university student letter to apply for student residence permit.

After you submit all documents, the immigration officer will evaluate your Turkish residence permit application.

You need to provide an address document to apply for Residence Permit in Turkey and notarized rent contract is the most accepted address document type for Turkish immigration office. Here is the guide on how to get a notarized rent contract that is accepted by the Immigration Office in Turkey.

Notarized rent contract is different than a regular rent contract. In order to get a notarized rent contract, the tenant and the landlord (or their legal representatives) need to go to a notary public office in Turkey and they need to make the rental agreement in the notary format. Notary officers prepare the rent contract in their special format and notary public also stamps the rent contract.

For the Turkish residence permit application, you need to provide a notarized rent contract from an address which is open for residence permit applications for foreigners. Some neighborhoods and districts are closed for residence permit applications. Even if you provide a rent contract notarization from these areas, the immigration office will not accept it. The closed districts for residence permit in Istanbul are Esenyurt, Fatih, Küçükçekmece, Başakşehir, Bağcılar, Avcılar, Bahçelievler, Sultangazi, Esenler and Zeytinburnu. You can also find the list of closed neighborhoods from the official website of Immigration Office https://www.goc.gov.tr/mahalle-kapatma-duyurusu-hk2.

There are two types of rent notarization and only one of them works at the immigration office. If you make the rent contract outside of the notary and bring the contract just for notary stamps, that document is not accepted by the immigration office for the residence permit application (onaylama şeklinde noter onaylı kira kontratı). The right notarized rent contract is the one that is prepared by the notary public, signed by parties at the notary office and then stamped by the notary (düzenleme şeklinde noter onaylı kira kontratı).

If one of the tenant or the landlord doesn’t speak Turkish, then the notary will ask you to bring an official Turkish translator with you to complete the rent contract notarization.

Foreigners need to provide notarized rent contract (noter onaylı kira kontratı) or sponsorship document (taahhütname) to get the Turkish Residence Permit. Alternatively, they can also provide address document from an authorized student dorm and this document is also accepted by the immigration office.

In all Turkish residence permit types, you need to provide the document that shows where you are going to live during your stay in Turkey. Notarized rent contract is the safest option and it is widely accepted. You need to make a rent contract with your landlord at the Notary Public and you can get the notarized rent contract from the notary. Usually, notary fee is approximately $200-$400 depending on the monthly rent of the property.

Second option as an address document is getting a sponsorship document from notary public. It is called Taahhütname. This paper shows that you are living with a Turkish citizen. The notary fee is cheaper for this option around $50-$60. You also need to submit the family record of the sponspor. If the sponsor is married, his/her spouse also needs to submit the notarized sponsorship paper stating that you are living there.

Finally, students can also provide official documents from their dormitory stating that student stays at the dorm during his education. You can get more information from your dorm manager about required address documents for Turkish residence permit.
