Criminal Procedure in Practice

Criminal procedure is often taught as a sequence of rules — but in practice, it is about judgment calls, strategy and timing.

Over the past few months, our Senior Partner, Khun Sakchai Limsiripothong, together with Khun Sirapop Suathongkum and Khun Sorravich Prarom, had the opportunity to work with students from the LLBel (International Program) at the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University — marking our second year supporting this course.

Across six sessions, the discussions focused on how cases actually move — from investigation and arrest through trial and appeal — and the practical considerations that shape each step.

Litigation is rarely linear, and that was something we were keen for the students to see early

Outside the classroom, students also spent time with the team through case discussions and workshops, getting a closer look at how litigation strategy is developed in practice.

What we appreciated most was the level of engagement and the quality of questions — often challenging assumptions and pushing the discussion further.

At Weerawong C&P, we see real value in giving students early exposure to how matters are handled in practice, and giving students a clearer sense of what the work involves.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Chulalongkorn University.

We are pleased to share that members of our Dispute Resolution Practice Group, led by Khun Phatsawat Siwawej (Partner), together with Khun Chadamarn Rattanajarungpond, Khun Piyachon Jiraratmethakorn, and Khun Ketsirin Wisetwatcharawong, were invited to serve as judges at the National Rounds for the Selection of Thailand’s Representative to the ASEAN Law Association Moot Competition 2026, held on 17–18 March 2026. The event was organised by the Office of International Affairs of the Thai Arbitration Institute (TAI) in collaboration with the Arbitration Office of the Office of the Judiciary of Thailand.

This year’s problem was particularly compelling, focusing on an investor–state arbitration case under the ICSID Rules. The moot reflected critical contemporary issues in investment disputes, including the delicate balance between investment protection and state sovereignty—themes that are increasingly relevant in today’s international investment landscape.

We extend our congratulations to all participants for their dedication, and to the winning team, Celestial Fighters from Chulalongkorn University, for their outstanding performance. We wish them every success as they represent Thailand on the international stage.

◻️About the Role

Weerawong C&P is seeking one or more Associates to join our Dispute Resolution Practice Group.

◻️Key Responsibilities

▫️Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, and other court submissions with appropriate supervision
▫️Conduct legal research and prepare case analyses, memoranda, and legal opinions
▫️Assist with trial preparation, including organizing evidence, preparing witness kits, and managing exhibits
▫️Attend court hearings, client meetings, and case conferences (with supervision for junior associates and increasing independence for mid-level and senior associates)
▫️Manage aspects of the discovery process, including reviewing documents, drafting interrogatories and requests, and coordinating disclosures
▫️Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts to support case development and case strategy
▫️Maintain and organize case files, monitor deadlines, and ensure compliance with procedural requirements
▫️Support settlement discussions and prepare materials for mediations and other dispute resolution processes

◻️Qualifications

▫️Bachelor’s degree in Law from a Thai university with an outstanding academic record
▫️Relevant experience in litigation practice
▫️Solid understanding of Thai court procedures in both civil and criminal matters
▫️Strong legal drafting skills, including pleadings, statements, motions, and other court submissions
▫️Proficiency in legal research, analysis, and critical thinking
▫️Effective communication and coordination skills when working with clients, witnesses, experts, and court officials
▫️Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Thai and English; proficiency in legal English is an advantage
▫️Ability to appear in court independently or assist senior counsel in court proceedings
▫️Highly detail-oriented, disciplined, and able to work effectively in a team environment
