25 years ago today, on 2 June 2001, I was called to the Singapore Bar. A quarter of a century has flown by & reaching this fills me with immense & .

The has continuously evolved 🌎 over the past 2-3 decades. The modern works in a 🏃🏻‍♀️fast-paced internet age. Technology has only amplified the demanding nature & relentless pace of private practice. We juggle heavy workloads, multitask constantly & handle urgent matters at the drop of a hat 🎩. We frequently have to fight fires & absorb the stress, drama & negative energy of parties in conflict. The emotional toll🫀 is real.

There are easier ways to earn💰 a living. is hard—the mental & emotional struggles along with health & lifestyle sacrifices all take place behind the scenes. I used to work 15/16-hour days⏰ (I don’t do that anymore, except when mediation goes overtime), survive on 1.5 meals & manage at least 300 emails daily—all while giving free talks & doing pro bono work. Is it sustainable? Only time can tell.

Still, I am immensely proud 💪🏻 to have stayed the course. I truly believe the journey is more important than the destination; the people more important than the process; and more important than achievement.

Glad the Court of Appeal clarified the position - that it will not give effect to an illegal act/purpose. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

"In our view, the illegal purpose of evading ABSD tainted the resulting trust the moment it crystallised," the judgment noted.

The woman said her ex-boyfriend had promised to give her 99 per cent ownership of the unit "to assure her that he wanted to settle down with her and would not cheat on her".

The registrar found that the dominant and distinctive components of the competing trademarks were their word elements – ABRYSVO and MAVENCLAD – rather than the logos themselves.

The registrar also said the circular logos were simple devices that “evoke no particular concept for the average consumer” and were more likely to be seen as “a decorative element rather than as an element indicating commercial origin”.

It was fantastic reconnecting with Peter, former Officer-in-Charge at WIPO Singapore, during his stopover visit recently.

A couple of IP professionals (friends) gathered for a lovely evening of drinks, dinner and a delightful stroll through the dark streets of Singapore. Our dinner table reflected the truly global nature of intellectual property practice, with representatives from Australia, Singapore, France and Europe.
