Meet Dr. Emma Onyenuche, Physician, Entrepreneur and MD/CEO of Waterfalls Hospital Group.

Popularly known as the Upright Doc, Dr. Emma Onyenuche is a medical practitioner and healthcare entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience. A graduate of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Calabar, he began his career at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital before undertaking postgraduate training at Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

Since transitioning into private medical practice in 2012, he has grown his practice from a modest facility into a multi centre hospital group, demonstrating a commitment to healthcare delivery and enterprise development.

Dr. Onyenuche holds several leadership positions, including First Vice Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners, Lagos Chapter; State Executive Council Member of the Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State; and Chairman of the NMA Lagos Committee on Universal Health Coverage.

Beyond clinical practice, he advocates for accessible healthcare through free surgeries and medical outreaches for indigent patients. He is also a regular public health commentator and contributor to discussions on health policy, medical practice and good governance.

At the 7th Legal Business Conference, Dr. Onyenuche will contribute to conversations on the evolving relationship between healthcare, innovation, investment and regulation.

Meet Joyce N. Eseni (Mrs.), a Medico-Legal Expert and Advocate for Health Law.

With two decades of post-call experience, Joyce Nnenna Eseni brings extensive expertise in medical law, medico-legal practice, and alternative dispute resolution to the legal profession.

She serves as Assistant Secretary of the NBA Section on Legal Practice (NBA-SLP), Second Vice Chair of its Medicine and Law Committee, and an Executive Member of the African Bar Association Women Forum.

As the pioneer and former Head of Legal Services at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, she has contributed significantly to the intersection of law and healthcare. She is also a facilitator with the Institute of Medical and Health Law, Nigeria, and The Medico-Legal Academy.

Currently a doctoral scholar in Global Health Law and Policy, Eseni holds an LL.M in Medical Law and is an Associate of the UNESCO Chair on Health, Race and Human Rights. She is also a widely published international speaker and a member of the World Association for Medical Law.

At the 7th Legal Business Conference, her wealth of knowledge and experience aligns with the conversations shaping emerging frontiers of legal practice, particularly in health law.

As Africa’s fashion industry expands, protecting creativity, intellectual property and commercial interests is more important than ever.

Bernice Ofunre Asein, Esq., is the Founder and Executive Director of the Fashion Law Institute Africa (FLIAfrica), the continent’s first institution dedicated to fashion law, and Managing Partner of Cardinal Counsel, a Lagos-based law firm advising fashion brands and creative businesses.

Through FLIAfrica’s Fashion Legal Clinic, she has supported over 200 fashion businesses and creatives. She also serves as a Founding Board Member and Legal Counsel to the Nigerian Fashion Council, contributing to the development of legal and policy frameworks for the fashion industry.

Bernice is the author of Fashion Law in Africa (2025), convenes the annual Fashion Law and Business Conference, and teaches fashion law at Yaba College of Technology.
