On 20 June 2026, the Strategic Development and Innovation Committee hosted a session, Business Development for Lawyers: The Business Skills They Didn’t Teach You in Law School.

Foong Cheng Leong and Lee Shih led the session, exploring how lawyers can develop the business and commercial skills needed to build and sustain a successful practice.

Drawing on their own experience, they shared practical insights on:

♦ Building and maintaining strong client relationships
♦ ⁠Effective networking and business development
♦ Personal branding and professional visibility
♦ Growing and sustaining a practice
♦ Developing a commercial mindset alongside legal expertise

The room was full of good questions and honest exchange on what it takes to compete in today’s profession.

🏆 Back-to-back champions!

The Kuala Lumpur Bar has retained the Overall Championship title at the MyBar Games 2026, which began with Bowling on 6 June 2026 in Ipoh, Perak, before continuing in Kota Bharu, Kelantan on 12 and 13 June 2026.

This was not just a win on paper. It was built through months of training, planning, sacrifice, long travels, early mornings, late nights and the willingness of our members to step up for Team KL Bar.

To our athletes, thank you for giving everything you had.

To our convenors and coaches, thank you for preparing your teams, managing the pressure and keeping everyone together.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to our sponsors, Elaine, Yun & Associates, LAW Partnership, and S Ravenesan, Messrs Chai & Co for their generous support towards Team KL Bar.

What made this achievement special was not only the medals, but the spirit behind them. The cherings from sidelines, the support between teams, the determination to keep going and the pride of representing the Kuala Lumpur Bar.

On 21 May 2026, the Malaysian Bar Council Legal Aid Centre Kuala Lumpur, together with the Kuala Lumpur Bar, successfully hosted an Engagement Session with the Legal Aid Department (Jabatan Bantuan Guaman, JBG) at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia.

The session provided valuable insights into the implementation of the Legal Aid and Public Defence Act 2026. This includes the transition of legal aid and public defence services to JBG, as well as the registration process for JBG Panel Lawyers and Public Defence Panel Lawyers.

We thank JBG and all participants for their engagement and contributions during the session.
