SLOUGH SIKH FATHER & SON: FROM VICTIMS TO DEFENDANTS

A Sikh father and son who suffered serious injuries during a violent confrontation with neighbours say their names have been “dragged through the mud” by the way Thames Valley Police handled the case.

Gurdave Singh Rehsi, 36, and his father Tavinder Singh, 64, were charged following the January 2024 incident in Langley, despite being injured. Both were later acquitted of all charges at Reading Crown Court.

Their neighbour, Peter Hall, was convicted of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon after pleading guilty.

The family say they had previously reported years of alleged racist abuse and harassment, supported by CCTV and audio recordings, but claim insufficient action was taken.

Rehsi also alleges that his turban-wearing father was referred to as “Mr Turban” during the subsequent court proceedings.

He says the Crown Court ultimately recognised him and his father as victims and invited them to submit victim personal statements.

Rehsi has now lodged complaints concerning the police investigation, handling of alleged racism and information provided to the press. Thames Valley Police confirmed a complaint is being investigated and said it cannot comment further while that process continues.

The family are calling for the handling of the case to be reviewed “from start to finish.”

SIKH NETWORK SURVEY REVEALS SHARP RISE IN ANTI-SIKH HATE ACROSS THE UK

The Sikh Network has today published the findings of a nationwide survey revealing a deeply concerning rise in Anti-Sikh hate crimes since 14 May 2026. The survey examines the period following the commencement of the trial of Vickrum Digwa for the murder of Henry Nowak.

Completed by more than 1,000 Sikhs from across the United Kingdom, the survey paints a troubling picture of growing hostility, fear and declining confidence in policing.

The findings reveal that 40% of respondents have personally experienced or witnessed an Anti-Sikh hate crime during the survey period, with more than 500 individual incidents reported.

Almost 90% of respondents believe Anti-Sikh hate has increased since mid-May, with 61% describing the increase as significant. More than two-thirds believed this rise coincided with politicians publicly and inappropriately questioning the sacred Kirpan, creating an environment in which prejudice has become more socially acceptable.

The impact on everyday life has been profound. 53% of respondents, particularly elderly Sikhs, said they no longer feel safe, while 84% reported taking additional precautions and two-thirds have changed their daily routines.
The survey also provides an insight into the nature of the abuse:

• Nearly 50% involved verbal abuse during everyday activities.
• 25% related to online abuse.
• Almost 15% involved harassment and intimidation.
• Nearly 10% involved vandalism, physical assaults or grievous bodily harm.

Perhaps most concerning is the lack of confidence in the criminal justice system. Although 60% of respondents said they know how to report a hate crime, only 6% of incidents were reported to the police. Seven in ten respondents said they lacked confidence that the police would take Anti-Sikh hate crimes seriously.

Another tragic incident where a young Sikh woman Kirandeep Kaur, has been fatally stabbed and killed in Hayes, west London.

A man in his 20’s Daniel Sean James has been arrested and charged with murder.

Investigations are ongoing to determine any racial or religious hate crime committed in this horrific attack. However, questions remain on how long will the Sikh community be ignored and neglected by government in the face of increasing attacks?
