Prison Visits.

EJM Investigations are happy to carry out Legal Visits on behalf of our clients. These are generally for things such a service of legal documents and statement taking.

This morning we effected service of some Scottish papers at HMP Wymott in Leyland.

***INTERESTING FACT***

The prison was named after the local area of Wymott and the nearby Wymott Brook, and was built in the late 1970's. Typical of prisons built in that era it relied heavily on an extensive Public address system (Tannoy) to make announcements.
This has led to a myth that the prison was called Wymott as it stands for "Where You Must Obey The Tannoy".

Romance Scams
Here at EJM Investigations we have probably come across hundreds of scams that have arisen from online relationships.
However there are only a handful of ways these scammers operate and we can usually identify a scam pretty quickly.

We are always happy to offer a little advice if needed.

If you want a little more than advice then we can assist with things like:
🕵️‍♀️ - Confirming an identity
🕵️‍♀️ - Confirming an address
🕵️‍♀️ - Confirming someone's home situation is what they have told you (live alone/married etc)

A few warning signs of an online scammer are:
🔎 - The person has limited internet access (works in the army or on an oil rig are common reasons they give)
🔎 - Family tragedy (Widowed)
🔎 - Normally appear to be wealthy

Eventually there will be a reason they need you to pay something (and that is when you lose your money). This is normally helping with a bill or similar as they can't access their UK account from abroad, and they will repay you once back in the UK.

Friday Feedback

This review from a private client is reflective of what many people feel when they first hire a PI. For most people it is a once in a lifetime requirement and they really don't know what to expect.

Thanks to TV portrayals of private detectives many people don't even know what can and cannot be achieved within the law.

Is hiring a PI the right thing to do?

Our latest blog (link in comments) looks at the choices faced by people when deciding if they should hire a PI.

As well as obvious things such as cost and benefits, there is also the ethics to be considered.

We always take time to speak to anyone enquiring to help them make that decision as informed as possible. Most people are unsure about what a PI can do and we will always explain that, and whether we feel it is beneficial to your case or not.

In an unregulated industry, voluntarily choosing to be a member of an organisation such as WAPI - World Association of Professional Investigators shows a commitment to upholding standards, and being accountable when those standards are not met.

I am very proud that this month marks 10 years since I became a member a member of WAPI.

Process Serving and Evasive respondents

In our latest blog we look at serving people who are evasive. (link in comments)

Our experienced Process servers know which documents can be letterboxed, or when to request the court permit substituted service.

Courts won't allow this unless they are sure the respondent is being evasive, so it is important to use a process server who will provide you a detailed statement of attempts and enquiries made.
