You’re in a shop when you see a young person put a sandwich and a drink into their bag before heading towards the exit without paying.

You don’t know their circumstances. Are they stealing because they’re hungry, or simply because they think they can get away with it?

Trial by social media needs to stop.

I’m not commenting on the allegations or individuals involved in the Cornell 7 case, but I am concerned about the way we discuss criminal allegations online.
Naming people, sharing photographs and treating allegations as proven facts can have devastating consequences.

The presumption of innocence isn’t just for people we like. It’s for everyone.

You can support victims, take allegations seriously and still believe in due process and the right to a fair trial.

Have we reached a point where social media is doing more harm than good when discussing criminal cases?

I hate travelling by train 🚆😂

I’m definitely a car person — I like the freedom of being able to arrive when I want, leave when I want, and change plans at the last minute.

BUT… being able to get the laptop out and actually work while I travel makes such a difference. 💻⚖️

Maybe train travel is slowly winning me over… although I’m not quite ready to admit it yet 😂

🚨 BANNED FROM DRIVING? Don’t assume an e-scooter is your loophole…

Had a few drinks and think, “It’s fine, I’ll just get an e-scooter home”? 🛴🍺

That decision could cause you a LOT more trouble than you expect.

E-scooters can fall within motor vehicle legislation, meaning offences can include:

🍺 Drink driving
🚫 Driving whilst disqualified
❌ Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence

So yes — you could potentially find yourself before the court because you jumped on an e-scooter.

🐄🍺 DRUNK IN CHARGE OF A COW?!

Yes… this is actually a real law.

Under the Licensing Act 1872, it’s an offence to be drunk while in charge of cattle on a highway or other public place.

And it doesn’t stop there — the legislation also mentions horses, carriages and even steam engines. 😂

Victorian drink-driving laws were apparently built differently…

💷 You walk up to a cash machine and there’s £200 just sitting there…

Nobody around.
No idea who it belongs to.

So you put it in your pocket and walk away.

Finders keepers, right? 👀

Not necessarily.

Finding money doesn’t automatically make it yours. Depending on the circumstances, keeping it could potentially amount to theft.

The fact that you didn’t physically take it from another person doesn’t necessarily change that.

And remember… there may be CCTV showing exactly what happened. 🎥

So what would YOU do if you found £200 sticking out of a cash machine?

📱 A £1,000 phone for £150 cash… bargain or massive red flag? 🚩

You buy it.

Two weeks later, the police turn up.

The phone was stolen during a burglary.

“But I didn’t steal it — I paid for it!”

That doesn’t necessarily end the matter.

You can potentially commit the offence of handling stolen goods even if you had absolutely nothing to do with the original theft.

A key question is whether you knew or believed the phone was stolen.

So what if you genuinely thought you’d just found yourself an incredible bargain?

🪵 YES… CARRYING A PLANK OF WOOD ALONG THE PAVEMENT CAN TECHNICALLY BE AGAINST THE LAW.

Under the Metropolitan Police Act 1839, carrying a plank, ladder or pole along a footway in London is prohibited in certain circumstances.

Don’t panic though — there are exceptions for loading/unloading or taking it into a building. 😂

Nearly 200 years later, some of our laws still sound completely bonkers.
