➡️ New Podcast 🎙️

Settlement agreements are often misunderstood.

Many people assume they are simply standard documents that need to be signed before leaving a job. The reality is often very different.

In the latest episode of The Legal Compass, Employment Solicitor Sanjay Rall explains:

✔ What settlement agreements actually do
✔ What rights are usually waived
✔ Common drafting mistakes that can have serious consequences
✔ Why legal advice is a legal requirement
✔ How negotiation can improve both financial and non-financial terms

The key takeaway is that settlement agreements are not merely paperwork. They are legally binding contracts that can significantly affect your finances, career and future rights.

If you've been offered a settlement agreement, obtain proper advice before signing.

Legal Terms Explained

What is a Beneficiary?

A beneficiary is a person or organisation who is named in a will to receive all or part of someone's estate after they die

Being named as a beneficiary doesn't always mean you'll receive your inheritance immediately. The estate usually needs to be administered first, which may include obtaining probate, settling any debts and taxes, and distributing the remaining assets.

Understanding the probate process can help manage expectations during what is often a difficult time.

An Essential New Build Conveyancing Checklist

The process of buying a new-build property is not necessarily easier than buying an existing property.

People think that a brand new property and the absence of a property chain, at least on the part of the seller, simplifies the process, but there are additional complexities such as the developer owning the whole site and therefore selling individual plots.

There may also be deadlines for completion, warranty agreements and compliance issues relating to building regulations, the Highways Act and drains and sewers. On top of this, in most cases you are buying something that doesn’t even exist yet.

New-build conveyancing is a specialist legal area, which is why we have put together a checklist to enable you to understand the various stages and what important considerations you need to make.

Read our recent blog for advice:
