Gurdeep Garcha KC and Curtis Myrie are defending a 65 year old West Bromwich man who is standing trial at Birmingham Crown Court accused of the murder of a 36 year old woman whose body was found in a Tipton canal a week after she was last seen alive.

The defendant has pleaded guilty to preventing a lawful burial but denies murder.

The case features a large body of CCTV evidence as well as scientific evidence, much of which focuses on the impact of submergence in water and the effect on the availability and recovery of forensic evidence thereafter.

The trial is expected to last three weeks.

Gurdeep Garcha KC represented Madalin Dumitru after himself and his partner, Adina Mihai, drugged four men in a bid to steal money and belongings, resulting in two of the victims dying.

Oxford Crown Court heard of how Mihai, assisted by Dumitru, created an online profile and posed as a s*x worker to gain access to men’s homes, before spiking them with the sedative gamma-butyrolactone (GBL). Once unconscious, Mihai would rob their homes, before leaving the scene with Dumitru who would wait outside.

Two of their victims collapsed and were found dead almost a year apart, eventually being linked after medical experts revealed they were poisoned in the same manner.

Robert Tolhurst's client acquitted of eight offences.

Robert defended for a client acquitted by a jury on 28th July 2026 following a trial at Warwick Crown Court. The indictment alleged eight offences: two counts of R**e, Sexual Assault and five counts of Sexual Activity with a Child. All the allegations were made by the same complainant and were said to have taken place over a period of seven months in 2019.

Robert was instructed by Luke Cleghorn of David Coyle Solicitors, Nuneaton.

Rachel Brand KC secures murder conviction in arson trial.

Following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in February, Andrew Gorrell was sentenced on the 6th July 2026 by the Recorder of Wolverhampton HHJ Chambers KC. Gorrell received the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment for murder, and must serve a minimum term of 25 years.

Daniel White has secured the attempted murder conviction of David Richards, who received an overall sentence of 31 years imprisonment.

In finding Mr Richards dangerous and passing a 27 year sentence, with four year extended licence, HHJ Gosling said,

“The attack on JL was ferocious and utterly brutal. As with partners you have had before, you sought to bully, intimidate and control her. In the chilling words you uttered before you repeatedly stabbed her, intending to kill her, if you couldn’t have her, nobody was going to. She was fortunate indeed to survive that attack. You did not need a knife to achieve your ends. You are a large, powerful man, professionally trained in combat. You used a knife only to ensure that she should not survive. As the jury decided, and as was abundantly clear from the evidence, you intended to end her life.”

A Birmingham teen has been convicted of murder following a 4-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court in which Timothy Hannam KC and Daniel White prosecuted.

Oumar Traore, who was 17 at the time of the incident, fatally stabbed Yassin Alama in November of last year. Both parties, affiliated with rival gangs, brandished weapons during a fight taking place on Hutton Road, before Yassin was stabbed in the abdomen and collapsed.

Timothy Hannam KC and Daniel White were instructed by the Serious Violence, Organised Crime & Exploitation Unit of CPS West Midlands.

Manizja Latifi secures acquittal in serious domestic abuse trial.

The defendant had previous convictions which were before the jury during the trial. After approximately two hours of deliberation, the jury acquitted him of controlling and coercive behaviour and intentional strangulation.

The case involved sensitive, recorded material and highly prejudicial previous convictions, all of which required careful examination during the trial.

Following a two-week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Rachel Brand KC secured the conviction of a 41-year-old man for the murder of a young mother. The jury had deliberated for just under 6 hours.

The defendant was sentenced on Monday 22nd June 2026 to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years.
