The home buying process in England could look very different in the years ahead.

Under the Government's Home Buying and Selling Reform Roadmap, the intention is for sellers eventually to prepare a sales pack before a property is listed, giving prospective buyers access to important information much earlier in the process. Proposed information includes title details, searches, tenure, service charges where applicable and a property condition assessment.
For buyers, particularly those purchasing their first home, this could mean discovering important information before making an offer rather than weeks into the transaction.

However, these mandatory sales packs are not yet a legal requirement and will require future legislation. More importantly, having information available earlier will not remove the need for your conveyancer to investigate the legal title and advise you on anything that could affect your ownership of the property.

Earlier information may change when buyers learn about a property. Good conveyancing will still determine what that information means for them.

At Murria, our Residential Conveyancing team can guide you through every stage of purchasing your home.

Being offered a settlement agreement can raise important questions about your employment, your financial package and the rights you may be agreeing to give up.

A settlement agreement is a legally binding contract, typically providing for an employee to waive specified employment claims in return for an agreed package or other terms. For the waiver of statutory employment claims to be valid, the employee must receive advice from an appropriate independent adviser on the terms and effect of the agreement.

That advice is about more than simply signing the document. An experienced employment solicitor can consider the proposed payment, notice and holiday entitlement, restrictive covenants, confidentiality provisions, references and the wider circumstances surrounding the termination of employment.

If you have been presented with a settlement agreement, our experienced Employment Law team can review the terms, explain your legal position and advise whether there may be scope for negotiation before you sign.

One of the most common misconceptions among motorists is that the number of penalty points alone determines whether they will lose their driving licence. In reality, the legal position is often more complex.

For example, a driver who has passed their practical driving test within the last two years may have their licence revoked after accumulating 6 penalty points, whereas more experienced drivers generally face a potential totting up disqualification at 12 points within a three-year period. Understanding which legal framework applies to your licence is often just as important as the number of points themselves.

Every case turns on its own facts. Before accepting penalty points or responding to a Notice of Intended Prosecution, it is sensible to understand the legal implications and the options available to you.

If you are facing penalty points, a motoring offence or the risk of losing your licence, contact our experienced Motoring Law team for expert legal advice.

The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA) gives investigating authorities and the courts extensive powers to investigate financial affairs, freeze assets and, following conviction in appropriate cases, seek confiscation orders. Proceedings under POCA can be complex, with significant financial and personal consequences for individuals, businesses and, in some circumstances, third parties connected to an investigation.

Seeking specialist legal advice at the earliest opportunity is essential. Early representation can help protect your legal position, challenge restraint or freezing orders where appropriate, scrutinise the prosecution's case and ensure your interests are robustly represented throughout the proceedings.

At Murria, Our experienced Criminal Defence team regularly advises and represents clients in a wide range of POCA matters, including restraint orders, account freezing orders, confiscation proceedings, asset recovery and related investigations. Working alongside leading counsel, forensic accountants and other experts where required, we provide strategic, discreet and effective legal representation tailored to the circumstances of each case.

If you require advice in relation to the Proceeds of Crime Act or are subject to a financial investigation, our specialist solicitors are here to help.

Losing a loved one is never easy, and administering an estate can often feel overwhelming. Matters such as obtaining Probate and completing an IHT400 Inheritance Tax Account, where required, demand careful attention to detail, accurate valuations and compliance with HMRC requirements before an estate can be administered.

We are delighted to receive feedback such as this, recognising the professionalism, knowledge and responsiveness that our solicitor, Bharat Murria brings to every matter. Providing clear advice and regular communication throughout the probate process is just as important as ensuring the legal and tax requirements are handled correctly.

Thank you D Chudgar, for taking the time to share their experience and for placing their trust in Murria Solicitors. Well done to Bharat on delivering the high standard of service that our clients have come to expect.

If you require advice on Probate, Estate Administration or Inheritance Tax (IHT) matters, our experienced Private Client team is here to help.
