Today, the City of Colwood recognizes Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people.

A Red Dress installation stands outside City Hall as a powerful visual reminder of the lives lost and the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities. It honours Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit individuals, as well as their families and loved ones.

This artwork also calls attention to the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, reminding us that reconciliation requires continued learning, reflection, and action.

Designed by Karver Everson for the Lil Red Dress Project and crafted from metal by students in School District 62’s TASK program, this piece represents both remembrance and a commitment to a more just future.

We encourage our community to reflect, learn, and stand in solidarity.
