🏡 Closing tomorrow… but the home isn’t ready?! 😳🔑

You’re one day away from getting the keys to your new home, and suddenly something isn’t right.

Maybe agreed-upon repairs haven’t been completed, the property isn’t in the expected condition, or unexpected issues have come up.

So what happens next? 👇

✅ Review your Agreement of Purchase and Sale — Understand what the seller is contractually required to deliver.

📸 Document everything — Take photos and videos of any concerns.

⚖️ Contact your real estate lawyer immediately — Even seemingly minor issues can affect your closing.

🏠 Explore your options — Depending on the circumstances, solutions may include a holdback, repairs or an agreed extension of the closing date.

🚨 Important: Don’t withhold funds, delay or refuse to close without legal advice. Doing so could have serious financial and legal consequences.

✨ Last-minute surprises don’t always have to derail your home purchase. Knowing your rights and acting quickly can make all the difference!

At AMIK LAW, we’re here to help you navigate real estate transactions with confidence.

Your child turns 18. But are you legally prepared? ⚖️

Most parents don’t realize that as their children become adults, their legal rights and responsibilities change.

In Ontario, being a parent doesn’t automatically give you access to your adult child’s medical information, finances or educational records.

Here are 5 important things to consider: 👇

1️⃣ Medical Privacy Consent – Permission to access certain health information.

2️⃣ Power of Attorney for Personal Care – Appointing someone to make care decisions if needed.

3️⃣ Continuing Power of Attorney for Property – Helping manage finances if your child becomes incapable.

4️⃣ Educational Privacy Consent – Accessing academic information with permission.

5️⃣ Healthcare Wishes & Estate Planning – Documenting important decisions and protecting their future.

💡 Planning ahead isn’t about control. It’s about protection.

At AMIK LAW, we help families prepare for life’s unexpected moments.

We need to talk about those “11 questions ChatGPT told you to ask your lawyer.” 👀⚖️

AI can be incredibly useful — and yes, lawyers use it too.

But there’s a big difference between AI responding to a prompt and your lawyer giving advice after reviewing your actual file, evidence, history, strategy and circumstances.

Ask questions. Lots of them. Bring your concerns, your worries and the things keeping you up at night.

Just remember:

Your lawyer has read your file.
ChatGPT has read your prompt.
Those are not the same.

AI can help you prepare for a conversation. It shouldn’t replace personalized legal advice.

New controlled-substance rules are now in effect across Canada. 🇨🇦💊

Starting October 1, a new federal framework introduces changes that may make certain controlled-substance prescriptions easier to manage.

Some of the updates include:
• Pharmacists may be able to extend qualifying prescriptions
• Certain prescriptions may be transferred between pharmacies
• More authorized locations can accept unwanted controlled medications
• Eligible travellers may carry up to a 90-day supply of certain prescribed controlled drugs for longer international trips without the previous individual federal exemption process

Provincial and territorial rules still determine what pharmacists can actually do in each jurisdiction.

Big changes are beginning for some Canada Post customers this October. 📬🇨🇦

Canada Post is starting the transition of some remaining door-to-door deliveries to community mailboxes, with the first affected communities including Sept-Îles, Quebec and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

About 23,000 addresses are expected to be affected in this first phase, with approximately 4 million addresses potentially transitioning over the next five years.

Important: this is the beginning of the transition — not an immediate nationwide end to door-to-door mail delivery.
