Last week we celebrated our incredible team during Staff Appreciation Week
 
From testing our knowledge in trivia to teaming up for a virtual escape room, it was a week full of connection and fun. We kicked things off with some special gifts for our staff, a bagel breakfast in the office, enjoyed some well-deserved relaxation with chair massages, and topped it all off with some fun bingo.
 
We’re grateful every day for the hard work, dedication, and positive energy our team brings.

We’re proud to share the incredible results of our backpack drive in partnership with Cameray Child & Family Services
 
Thanks to the generosity and support of our team, we not only reached our goal, but we exceeded it. Together, we assembled and donated 25 fully stocked backpacks for both adult women and children, helping provide comfort and care to individuals navigating the court process after experiencing abuse.
 
With your contributions we were able to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those supported by Cameray.
 
We’d also like to extend a special thank you to MindSense Canada for being a part of this initiative.
 
This initiative is a reminder of what’s possible when we come together for a common cause.

We are incredibly grateful to MindSense Canada for their generous $500 donation to our Backpack Drive in partnership with Cameray Child & Family Services.
 
Together, we are supporting vulnerable women and children navigating the criminal justice system after experiencing abuse. MindSense thoughtfully assembled a backpack filled with comfort, grounding, and practical resources designed to provide meaningful support during some of the most difficult stages of the justice process, including trial.
 
Cameray Child & Family Services serves Burnaby and New Westminster by providing counselling, education, outreach, and advocacy to children, youth, and families. They are the only program in British Columbia with a specific focus on supporting child survivors and regularly assist individuals who must testify in criminal proceedings. Their work is vital and we are proud to stand alongside them.
 
We sincerely thank MindSense for stepping up in such a thoughtful and compassionate way. Their commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centred support reflects the shared values that guide both legal and mental health professionals.

Slater Vecchio LLP has filed a proposed class action against the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) over a data breach that allegedly compromised the personal information of approximately 750,000 registrants and investors. The suit covers all affected Canadians outside Quebec, and alleges CIRO failed its legal duty to protect putative class members’ sensitive data.

“Canadians are required to provide highly sensitive financial and personal information to regulators like CIRO, with the expectation that it will be rigorously protected,” said Anthony A. Vecchio, KC, partner at Slater Vecchio LLP. “When that trust is broken by a cyberattack, the consequences can be serious and long-lasting, including heightened risks of identity theft, fraud, and ongoing privacy harms. This action seeks to hold CIRO accountable and to reinforce that safeguarding personal information is a fundamental component of any regulator’s public-interest mandate.”

Slater Vecchio is excited to partner with Cameray Child & Family Services () for a backpack drive. This initiative will directly support victims and witnesses of crime as they prepare for and attend court after experiencing abuse
 
Starting this week, we’ll be collecting donations, and making backpacks available for our team to fill together. Our goal is to prepare 10 backpacks for adult women and 10 backpacks for children. Our total fund-raising goal is $1,500.00, which will be matched by the firm – bringing the total impact to $3,000.00.
 
Cameray is a non-profit organization that provides counselling, education, outreach, and advocacy to children, youth, and families in Burnaby and New Westminster. Notably, Cameray is the only program in the province with a specific focus on supporting child survivors, and they regularly assist individuals who must testify in criminal proceedings.
