Young people are more exposed to harm because adults and systems hold the power: over housing, schooling, healthcare, income, and even freedom. When that power imbalance intersects with poverty, being Indigenous or Black, racialization, homelessness, family instability, disability, immigration status or 2SLGBTQ+ identity, the risks multiply - and so must the protections.

When you support JFCY, you help shift the power.

At JFCY, Black History Month highlights how access to justice for Black Canadian youth has been - and continues to be - shaped by anti-black racism.

We perceive “justice” as the right to be safe, believed, and supported - in school, within child welfare systems, in housing and in immigration processes - indeed in every space where young people may find themselves struggling to survive.
Our advocacy is rooted in the idea that our justice system must protect Black youth through culturally-rooted care, stable housing and income, affirming schools and communities, and by continuing to instigate fundamental changes to dismantle systemic racism. ❤️🖤💚

JFCY is part of Your Way Forward, a collaborative multi-clinic project funded by the Department of Justice that provides legal support to survivors of gender-based violence.

That federal funding ends March 31. While Your Way Forward is grateful for one-year bridge funding from the Law Foundation of Ontario (through March 2027), survivors need these services for the long term.

There are more than 20 similar projects across the country which rely on this funding to provide access to justice services for their survivor clients. Together with these sister organizations across Canada, we’re calling for permanent, sustainable funding for survivor-centred justice services.

has written an open letter to the Ministers of Justice and WAGE. See ESVA’s bio for a link to write your MP and support these services.

Meet Samira Ahmed - one of JFCY's Staff Lawyers running at the TCS Marathon to raise funds and awareness for the organization.

This is Samira's first half marathon - she has taken on this challenge because she sees every day how urgent the need is in this province for unsupported children and youth to have access to legal advocates.

But Samira's work goes well beyond the confines of the law. She is often helping her clients find safe housing, providing meals and access to wraparound services like social workers and medical care.

Samira is running so that her clients can access justice, find stability and embrace a future. Samira is running for the most vulnerable people in our province.

To support incredible Samira and JFCY please consider donating through the link in our bio.

We appreciate you!

📣🚨JFCY is one of 23 organizations who receive funding from the federal Department of Justice for legal services for survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. This funding helps us provide services to young people who have been victimized by gender-based and family violence. It’s about to end. Protect survivor’s safety and help us by using the link in our bio to send an email to your MP, urging the government to renew this support.
