When building or renovating a home in Nova Scotia, it’s important to understand the Builders' Lien Holdback — a key legal safeguard under the Nova Scotia Builders’ Lien Act. Whether you’re a homeowner, contractor, or developer, knowing how this holdback works can help protect your investment and ensure everyone involved in the construction process gets paid fairly. See our new blog post for details.

Don’t forget what you own online when preparing your estate plan. Your estate isn’t just physical property — it can also include:

• Social accounts & emails
• Photos & cloud storage
• Crypto & online wallets
• Online subscriptions

You can make things much easier for your executor and beneficiaries by taking a few relatively simple steps during your lifetime:

✔️ Keep an up-to-date inventory of your digital assets, including usernames, account details, and what you’d like done with each one.
✔️ Include clear instructions in your Will authorizing your executor to access and manage your digital assets. Without this, they may be blocked by privacy or data-protection laws.
✔️ Use secure password storage, such as a password manager your executor can access if needed.
✔️ Name an electronic beneficiary, where permitted. Some online platforms allow you to designate someone to take control of an account after your death.
