Vertex Chambers recently represented a leading multinational company in a Writ Petition challenging a demand of over BDT 250 crore (USD 20 million) on account of VAT by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). We successfully secured an interim order from the High Court Division which issued a show cause notice against the National Board of Revenue (NBR). This case questions the constitutionality of certain sections under the VAT and Supplementary Duty Act 2012 with particular focus on “unregistered” businesses and their right to do trade or business as mandated by the Constitution.

Our Managing Partner and Senior Advocate, Junayed Chowdhury led the team assisted by Barrister Tanvir Quader, Barrister Asif Bin Anwar, Advocate Maliha Ahmed and Barrister Tashfia Aziz.

On 08.01.2026, Vertex Chambers Managing Partner Mr. Junayed Ahmed Chowdhury paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Tom Ginsburg, Professor of International Law at the University of Chicago Law School (of which Mr. Chowdhury is an alumnus), who was visiting Bangladesh as a speaker at an event organised by the University of Dhaka. Mr. Chowdhury handed over to Professor Ginsburg copies of 'Corporate Tax Law and Practice ' and 'Commentaries on the Law of Arbitration on Bangladesh' - two books authored by Mr. Chowdhury.
