On 25 July the Department issued Ministerial Direction 117. It sorted the entire family visa queue into two piles: onshore, and everyone else.

Onshore goes first. All of it. Ministerial intervention cases, then onshore partner and dependent child, then orphan relative, then contributory parent. Carer and aged parent visas sit at the very bottom of that pile β€” and they're still ahead of you.

If you applied offshore, you wait for that whole list to clear.

So if there is a lawful path for you to apply onshore β€” partner, parent β€” that decision is worth making this month.

Come talk to me and we'll look at where you actually sit. If you'd rather run it yourself, the partner visa tools on our site will get you to a properly evidenced application without the professional fees.

Sometimes the system gets it wrong. And when it does, you need someone in your corner who knows exactly what to do.

This couple came to us after a partner visa refusal that threatened to separate a husband and wife who had built their life together in Australia. The odds felt stacked against them. But with careful preparation, the right evidence, and a clear strategy, we took their case to the AAT.

Every case we take on gets our full attention, our honest advice, and our genuine care. If you need immigration support, book a free call today (link in bio).

The Partner Visa charge just hit $11,710.

If you're preparing to lodge, here's the part that trips people up (spoiler: it's not the strength of your relationship that matters, it's the evidence you submit with your application)

When deciding on partner visas, the Department is assessing whether your relationship is genuine and ongoing, across four areas: financial, household, social, and commitment.

That's exactly what our Partner Visa Readiness Audit checks, before you lodge.

$550 fixed fee. 5-day turnaround. Reviewed and signed off by a registered migration agent.

Know where you stand - before you lodge.

Australia measures migration in numbers. Visa grants. Occupation lists. Net overseas arrivals. Housing pressure.

Nobody measures whether you have someone to call at 9pm when the letter from Home Affairs lands and your hands won't stop shaking.

I came here in 2003. I learned the migration regulations long before I learned how to make a friend in this country β€” and for years I mistook politeness for closeness. Politeness is lovely. Politeness will not sit in your kitchen while you fall apart.

This weekend I was in Adelaide for Lily Meszaros, who was presenting her book "Komera", about belonging.

Lily is Rwandan. She moved to Perth eight years ago. She is my sister in every way that matters except paperwork. We raised our children alongside each other, and what bound us was directness β€” the blunt, unvarnished honesty that this country rarely permits between adults. Australians are warm. Australians are also careful. Two migrant women being straight with each other felt like coming home.

We have never once said "I love you." We cook. We show up when life goes sideways. That is the entire vocabulary and it has never once failed us.

So: wine, good food, three hours of talking about friendship and what actually makes a person belong somewhere.

A visa grant confirms you are permitted to stay. It says nothing about whether you are known. The settlement system can process your application, check your health, verify your English, count your points. It cannot hand you a person who notices when you've gone quiet.

That part you build yourself. Usually at a table.

Komera means be strong β€” what you say to someone carrying something heavy. Lily wrote a whole book about it. Read it.

Who was the first person in this country who made you feel like you weren't a guest? I'd like to read those.

Your Partner Visa application is more than paperwork - it is the evidence of your shared life. πŸ“‚

A strong application generally includes documents across key areas, such as:

Financial aspects: Joint accounts, bills, or shared expenses
Household: Evidence of living together and shared responsibilities
Social: Photos, invitations, travel, and statements from family or friends
Commitment: Personal statements, future plans, and communication records

Not sure if your evidence is lodgement-ready? Our Partner Visa Readiness Audit reviews your documents against these four categories and flags the gaps before a case officer does.

Most partner visa refusals we see aren't about the relationship - they're about the evidence.

It's tempting to take a leap of faith, and assume that photos together, a shared lease or bank account will be sufficient for an approval, but the Department considers evidence as a whole and one strong area doesn't make up for gaps elsewhere.

Our Partner Visa Readiness Audit checks where your evidence stands before you lodge - $550 fixed fee, 5-day turnaround, reviewed and signed off by a registered migration agent.

3 things people think count as evidence. (They're not enough on their own.)

The Department assess Partner Visa applications across four areas: financial, household, social, and commitment. Photos together, a joint lease or a marriage certificate might be strong evidence in one area, one strong category won't carry an application. It's the combination that counts.

Most refusals aren't about whether the relationship is real. They're about evidence. Check yours before you lodge.

Photos together, a lease, a joint account - it feels like enough evidence, but it's rarely the full picture.

Successful Partner Visa applications require evidence of an ongoing, genuine relationship across four areas: financial, household, social, and commitment.

Most of the refusals we see aren't about whether the relationship is real. They're about evidence that didn't show enough of it.

Know where your evidence stands before you lodge. Link in bio for our Partner Visa Readiness Audit β€” $550, 5-day turnaround, reviewed by a registered migration agent.
