Student Legal Service - Tasmania

Student Legal Service - Tasmania The Student Legal Service provides free and confidential legal advice for all UTAS students

Until recently, the Student Legal Service provided information sessions and appointments to help international students with their visa questions. We can still help with visa issues, but we can also provide initial advice about most legal problems! For example:

Tenancy issues
Workplace issues
Family violence
Contract and consumer issues
Issues with the University
Criminal charges

The Student Le

gal Service is a collaboration between the Tasmanian University Student Association, Youth Law Australia and UTAS Law Students. To book an appointment with our lawyer, go to our website at https://www.tasstudentlegalservice.com/

Nick Hanna, principal of Hanna Legal and a co-founder of the Civil Liberties Defence Centre, will be speaking at the Stanley Burbury Theatre, Hobart on Friday 7 Aug from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, and at the Rory Spence Lecture Theatre, Launceston on Saturday 8 Aug from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Nick will be examining why and how legal mechanisms have been used to restrict or silence individuals advocating in support of Palestine. The discussion will situate these developments within their broader historical and political context, highlighting the factors that have contributed to contemporary forms of repression. He will look at case studies from various jurisdictions to illustrate how Palestine advocates have been subjected to legal proceedings and other regulatory measures. Finally, he will explore practical and legal strategies for responding to and challenging such forms of repression.

Register for in-person attendance by emailing [email protected].
