There’s never a perfect moment to talk with your parents about their wishes, but there are gentler ways to begin.

Today is International Day of Older Persons, a good moment to think about the conversation so many of us keep putting off.

Talking with your parents about their will, or who would make decisions for them if they couldn’t, rarely feels easy. It can feel like you’re suggesting they can’t cope or thinking of the worst. So, it waits, until a crisis forces it at the worst possible time.

Swipe through for three gentle ways to start, and what getting things in order actually involves.

When your parents are ready, we’ll sit down with them at their pace, on their terms. Call 1800 845 143 or visit the link in our bio.

Five weeks left. Are you ready?

If you run a residential aged care service, your audited Care Minutes Performance Statement for the 2025 to 2026 financial year is due by 31 October 2026, alongside your Aged Care Financial Report. This follows updated auditor guidance from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Five weeks might sound like plenty of time, but between arranging your audit, checking your actual care minutes against your targets, and pulling together supporting records, it goes quickly.

Now is a good time to check where things stand and make sure nothing is left until the last minute.
Need a hand understanding what this means for your service? Get in touch with our team.

This week, we celebrate a proud moment for Olivia Gatsios on her admission as a lawyer.

Watching Olivia grow during her time at Ebra Partners has been a true pleasure. Her dedication, curiosity and care shine through in everything she does, and they have shaped her into the capable practitioner she is today.

At Ebra Partners, we are proud to be a firm that supports and empowers young women on their legal journey. We believe in creating an environment where the next generation of diverse lawyers can build confidence, develop their skills and have the opportunities to thrive. Watching Olivia reach this moment is a proud reminder of why that matters so much to us.

We are excited to see all that Olivia will achieve in the next chapter of her career, and we are so glad to have her on the team as she takes this next step.

Congratulations Olivia, we could not be prouder!

A new job offer is exciting, and it can be tempting to sign as soon as it arrives. Take a moment to look beyond the job title and headline salary.

Your contract should give you a clear picture of what you’ll be paid, the hours and locations you’re expected to work, and any restrictions that may apply after you leave. If a salary is intended to cover overtime or other entitlements, it’s particularly important to understand what is included and how that compares with the hours you may actually work.

There are also proposed changes to Australia’s rules on non-compete clauses. They are still in draft form and are not law yet. If your proposed contract contains a restraint, don’t assume it will disappear under the proposed reforms.

Understanding these terms before you accept gives you an opportunity to ask questions and, where appropriate, negotiate.

If you’ve received an employment contract and would like advice before signing, contact Ebra Partners at [email protected].

Pre-settlement inspections are essential for homebuyers, ensuring the property remains in the same condition as at the date of sale before finalising the purchase. Typically conducted within seven days before settlement, this inspection helps buyers confirm that all fixtures, fittings, and agreed inclusions are intact while identifying any new damage or issues.

Key things to check:
✔️ Overall property condition
✔️ Fixtures, fittings & agreed inclusions
✔️ Electrical, plumbing & security systems
✔️ Cleanliness & vacant possession
✔️ Any contractually required repairs

If problems arise, buyers should notify their conveyancer and real estate agent immediately to arrange repairs, compensation, or settlement adjustments. Conducting this inspection ensures a smooth handover and protects against unexpected costs.
