We keep getting asked, so here is the current position as of the latest Home Affairs update (25 August 2026).

The Philippines Work and Holiday (subclass 462) program is still not open. Australia and the Philippines signed the Memorandum of Understanding in September 2023, and both governments are still undertaking the administrative arrangements needed before the program launches. Home Affairs will publish a start date on its Working Holiday Maker latest news page when everything is finalised, along with advice on how Filipino passport holders may obtain a Letter of Concurrence.

Until that start date appears, no genuine Philippines subclass 462 application can be lodged. Please be careful with anyone asking you to pay to lodge one now.

What is genuinely available is employer sponsorship. There is a timing point worth knowing. Under Ministerial Direction 119, which took effect on 25 July 2026, healthcare occupations sit in the third priority band for applicants who are already in Australia. Applicants outside Australia sit in the final band. Occupation and location both matter for where your application sits in the queue.

Have you been approached about a Philippines subclass 462 application this year? Talk to us to get accurate advice.

If you have a family visa application sitting in the queue, the processing order changed on 25 July 2026.

Ministerial Direction 117 replaced Direction 102, and Direction 103 still sets the queue date order for the capped and queued categories.

The headline point is location. Direction 117 gives the highest priority to family applications made while the primary applicant was in Australia, for a visa that can be granted while they are in Australia. Applications where the applicant is outside Australia at the time of application, or must be outside Australia at grant, sit lower.

Inside each of those groups, the order runs:
1. Applications subject to ministerial intervention
2. Partner or dependent child
3. Orphan relative
4. Contributory parent or contributory aged parent
5. Carer
6. Parent, aged parent, remaining relative or aged dependent relative

There is also provision to prioritise an application where there are special circumstances of a compassionate nature and compelling reasons to depart from the order, decided case by case.

None of this changes who is eligible. It changes where your application sits while you wait.

Which family pathway are you on? Talk to us to understand your position.

Good news for our Papua New Guinea community that has not had much attention.

From 1 July 2026, eligible Papua New Guinean citizens can use a new streamlined 'Apply again' option when applying for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) in the Business Visitor stream or the Tourist stream.

The option is available through ImmiAccount to eligible Papua New Guinean citizens who have a history of immigration compliance and who have had a subclass 600 visa in the Business Visitor or Tourist stream finalised in the previous five years. The Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea publishes the details on how it works.

Two things worth remembering. This is about visitor travel, so it is separate from the Pacific Engagement visa ballot, and it is separate again from PALM. A compliance history matters here, which is one more reason to do every visitor visa properly the first time.

Have you travelled to Australia on a subclass 600 in the last five years? You may be eligible for this streamlined option, subject to Department requirements.

Talk to us to find out more.

We are still seeing posts claiming the Philippines Work and Holiday visa, Subclass 462, is open. As at the latest Home Affairs update, it is not.

Both governments are still completing the administrative arrangements. Home Affairs will publish a start date and details on how Filipino applicants may obtain a Letter of Concurrence once everything is finalised. Until that start date is published, no genuine Philippines 462 application can be lodged. Please be careful with anyone asking you to pay to lodge one now.

What is genuinely available today is employer sponsorship. Nursing, aged care and child care occupations, including Registered Nurse (Aged Care) ANZSCO 254412, Enrolled Nurse 411411, and Child Care Worker 421111, all sit on the Core Skills Occupation List. That list supports a Subclass 482 Skills in Demand sponsorship, which is open right now. Eligibility is subject to Department requirements.

Have you seen a post claiming the 462 is now open? Let us know in the comments.

Waiting on Queensland state nomination? Here is the honest position.

Registrations of Interest for the 2025-26 State Nominated Migration Program are closed, all nomination places for that year have been filled, and Migration Queensland is waiting on advice from the Australian Government about future program settings and allocations.

If you were invited and have already lodged, your application will keep moving and will be finalised once new places are allocated. You do not need to do anything.

If you are still waiting for an invitation, use the time. Renew a skills assessment that is close to expiring, check your English test dates, tidy up your employment references, and look at whether another pathway may suit you better in the meantime. You may be eligible for alternative pathways, subject to Department requirements.

Preparation is the part you control.

Where are you up to in your Queensland plan? Let us know in the comments.

A clear update for our Papua New Guinea community, because two very different programs keep getting mixed up.

The Pacific Engagement Visa, Subclass 192, is the ballot. Registration opened on 1 July and closed on 29 July 2026. Random selection for PNG runs from 5 August 2026 to 26 February 2027. If you are selected, your ImmiAccount status will show as Selected, and you will receive an email. From that notification, you have 120 days to complete and lodge your application online.

PALM, the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme, is something else entirely. That program runs through the Subclass 403 visa PALM stream with an approved employer and is not a ballot. Being in one program does not affect the other.

Knowing which one you are actually in saves a lot of worry.

Which program are you following? The PEV ballot or PALM? Let us know in the comments, and get in touch if you have questions about your next steps. Eligibility is subject to Department requirements.
