If you have been involved in a parenting dispute or seen a family lawyer you would have heard the term “best interests of the child.” At Fitzgerald Rayner Law, a common question we hear from our client’s is “what does best interests of the child actually mean?”

Pursuant to the Family Law Act, when decisions are to be made about parenting matters, the child’s best interest is the most important consideration. The Family Law Act sets out key considerations that the Court must consider before making a decision and those key considerations are set out above.
