We are proud to congratulate Jean-Paul Rudd, Partner at Adams & Adams, on completing his MSc (Cum Laude) in Climate Change from the University of London.

His dissertation, "The Feasibility of a State-Owned Crop Insurance Scheme for Smallholder Farmers in South Africa", examines the challenges faced by smallholder farmers in the context of climate-related crop losses and considers whether a state-supported crop insurance model could offer a feasible, policy-driven solution.

This is a significant personal achievement and one that strengthens Adams & Adams' thinking at the intersection of insurance law, agricultural risk, and climate policy. These are areas of growing importance for our clients and the broader market.

Jean-Paul, congratulations on this well-deserved achievement.

“One of the things that surprised me about the training at Adams & Adams is just how patient people are, and how willing senior professionals are to teach you. Being here has made me realise that what you learn at university is very different from how things are done in practice. When you approach your associates, they understand where you are coming from and never make you feel bad or incompetent. They are happy that you have come to ask.”

Meet Neo Mosima, one of our Candidate Attorneys, as he shares what surprised him most during his training at Adams & Adams.

Kyk wat doen 'n blazer.

What started as a single video by influencer Farming Blonde in March 2026 has swept across South Africa, and raised a genuinely interesting trade mark question in the process.

Can a brand acquire protectable goodwill overnight?

Traditionally, building the kind of consumer recognition that trade mark law protects took years of consistent use, advertising spend, and commercial investment. Virality changes that. A single clip, meme, or trending phrase can now generate more public recognition in 24 hours than some brands achieve in years.

"Kyk wat doen 'n blazer" is the perfect example. Today it's a viral slogan. Tomorrow, it could be a protected brand.

Werina Griffiths, Partner, and Nontando Tusi, Senior Associate, unpack what virality means for trade mark rights and why IP protection in the digital age moves faster than ever. https://buff.ly/9FGGzoE

“What has been the most exciting and energising part of my experience at Adams & Adams has been the culture of openness and collaboration. Every single professional I have spoken to has been very generous with their time, and honest about both the challenges and the rewards.”

"One piece of advice I would give to future Candidate Attorneys is that what will dictate your success is the love you have for the things that you do. You should always have that as your consistent thought."

“One thing that surprised me about the training at Adams and Adams is that you get involved in actual matters. The people at the firm really help you, and you work on matters hands on. I thought I would mostly be doing behind the scenes work, but you get to research, work with clients, and actually learn a lot through doing.”

Meet Lize Bekker, one of our Candidate Attorneys, as she shares what surprised her most during her training at Adams & Adams.

“One piece of advice I would give to future Candidate Attorneys is to come here with the mindset that you are still going to learn. You may feel like you have completed your four years of studying law and that you know what is going on, but practice is very different from theory. Come in excited to learn and grow, and take your civil procedure lectures very seriously, because they become extremely important once you start in practice.”

Meet Khumo Mmutlana, one of our Candidate Attorneys, as she shares her advice for future candidates at Adams & Adams.

“One moment that made me proud to be an Adams & Adams candidate was when Zola, who is the Head of Graduate Recruitment, told us about how Adams and Adams works with different associate firms in Africa, and how each firm would give a fabric. When I arrived and saw all the different fabrics on the wall, that made me proud because Adams & Adams is a leading law firm in Africa.”

Meet Maya Drummond, one of our Candidate Attorneys, as she shares a moment that made her proud to be part of Adams & Adams.

“What has inspired me most about Adams & Adams is looking at the different types of work that is done. What I have found impressive is seeing intellectual property law at work. There is a gap in the way I was taught intellectual property at university and how it works in practice. It has been impressive seeing how things actually move.”

Meet Khuthadzo Munyai, one of our Candidate Attorneys, as he reflects on what has inspired him most during his training at Adams & Adams.
