Thornton’s Market at 88th has reached a meaningful milestone, but it’s still a proposal process, not a finished project.

At the 15.6-acre former Thornton Shopping Center, 8800 Washington St. (88th & Washington), the Thornton Development Authority certified active cleanup substantially complete Sept. 29, 2026, advancing Spark & Halo (Denver), Sire Group (Irving, TX) and Colmena Group (Salt Lake City) to the RFP phase. More than 24,500 cubic yards of contaminated soil were removed; groundwater monitoring and vapor-intrusion mitigation continue. Proposals are due early December; developer selection is expected early next year.

The former center’s first stores, including Woolworth’s and Miller’s Market, opened in 1955. The vision: a walkable, retail-driven destination. Future shops and dining could matter to nearby buyers, but construction timing is uncertain. An RFP doesn’t guarantee a project; fit depends on budget, commute and timeline.

Driving Federal Parkway in north Westminster? The City’s project between 120th and 122nd avenues is reconstructing and widening this major arterial, an extension of Federal Boulevard. Today, the corridor shifts between two and four travel lanes.

What’s changing:
• More consistent travel lanes and a median separating northbound and southbound traffic
• New bike lanes
• A pedestrian crossing connected to the Big Dry Creek Trail
• Drainage and stormwater-quality improvements
• Streetlights through a separate project

Construction is underway and expected to finish in summer 2027.

Day to day, expect lane shifts, intermittent flagger holds and possible delays of up to about 10 minutes. Work is generally scheduled 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional night or weekend activity possible. Use caution and consider alternate routes when practical. Check the city’s project page for the latest conditions.

What's the honest take on the data centers being proposed in Aurora?

Two large projects are on the table in the east metro: one near Green Valley Ranch that the mayor has publicly said should be stopped, and a second, roughly 500-acre proposal near The Aurora Highlands. Both are proposals. Nothing has been built.

For buyers and homeowners, the honest answer is that impact depends more on specifics than headlines: noise, lighting, truck traffic, water use, setbacks, screening, buffering, and what the land could otherwise become.
