Word of the Week: Physical Care

Whether a parent is married or not, the custody of each child encompasses two different legal components - legal custody and physical care.

Physical care is the actual parenting schedule, including how many overnights the child spends with each parent and on which days of the week. There are two kinds of physical care: 1) shared care and 2) primary care with parenting time (visitation). With shared physical care, both parents have equal parenting time with the child. With primary physical care, the child lives with one parent a majority of the time and the other parent has minimal or liberal parenting time.
