Hit by a city bus, public school bus, county truck, or state vehicle? The process may look a little different, and the first deadline can come sooner than you think. 🗓️
In Utah, claims involving government entities, including public school districts, fall under the Governmental Immunity Act. Before filing a lawsuit, you generally need to submit a written notice of claim within one year of the injury.
That notice also needs to be sent to the correct office and completed properly. If it isn’t, the claim could be barred even if the usual four-year deadline hasn’t passed.
Privately owned or operated buses may be treated differently, which is why it’s important to confirm who actually owns and runs the vehicle.
