A peak inside Department 10 of the Ventura courthouse where traffic related cases are heard. The District Attorney’s Office offers a wet reckless to a DUI charge under narrow circumstances, such as in this case involving Ms. Spears.

Britney Spears had her DUI charge dropped Monday morning after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors, where the charge was reduced to a "Wet Reckless."

The lack of a court reporter is an issue which impacts restraining order cases in the Ventura Superior Court - makes it very difficult if not de facto impossible to appeal the results of a hearing. A problem in need of a solution to preserve folks’ rights and a fully functioning constitutional system by which the right to appeal is preserved.

Proceedings in domestic violence, child custody and other cases routinely go without transcripts amid a court staffing shortage and a law that bars electronic recordings.
