If this has happened to you, you're far from alone, and there are still steps you can take to protect yourself.
1. Call 911 immediately
Even if the damage looks minor and you feel okay. A police report becomes one of the most valuable pieces of documentation for your claim.
2. Gather what you can remember
The color, make, model, direction of travel, license plate (even a partial one), or anything distinctive like a dent or bumper sticker. Every detail helps.
3. Look for witnesses and cameras
Nearby businesses, homes, or traffic signals may have captured the accident on camera. Witnesses can also provide accounts that help identify the driver who fled.
4. Document everything
Take photos of the damage, your injuries, and keep a record of every expense that follows: medical bills, repair costs, lost wages.
Even if the driver is never identified, you may still have options through your own insurance, including PIP and uninsured motorist coverage. And if they are identified later, you may be able to pursue a claim directly against them.
You don't have to figure this out alone. If this has happened to you, let's talk through your options.
