"U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents have broad authority to look through travelers’ phones, laptops and other electronic devices under an exception to the Fourth Amendment’s protections against warrantless searches...If you’re a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident, such as a green card holder, they’re required to let you enter the country even if you refuse to unlock your device. But agents can still seize your device and hold on to it for five days, or longer at a supervisor’s discretion..."

"Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car, van, pickup or panel truck will be:

72.5 cents per mile driven for business use, up 2.5 cents from 2025.
20.5 cents per mile driven for medical purposes, down a half cent from 2025.
20.5 cents per mile driven for moving purposes for certain active-duty members of the Armed Forces (and now certain members of the intelligence community), reduced by a half cent from last year.
14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations, equal to the rate in 2025."

IR-2025-128, Dec. 29, 2025 — The Internal Revenue Service today announced that the optional standard mileage rate for business use of automobiles will increase by 2.5 cents in 2026.

In our opinion, the durable power of attorney is an important and necessary tool, but it should only be granted to people one trusts.

"Investigators said she obtained a durable power of attorney, purportedly signed by the victim, that gave her legal authority over him and all his assets and making her the sole beneficiary, though it's believed the victim lacked the mental capacity to sign the power of attorney."

Over a period of two and a half years, the caregiver allegedly used her position to manipulate the victim, using nearly all his life savings.
