Charles Coburn McMillin, aged 79, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, just 4 weeks shy of his 80th birthday. Charles was a United States Marine who proudly and bravely volunteered to serve his country in 2 tours in Vietnam with an artillery unit. He later served as a police officer in numerous jurisdictions. As his friends and family knew well, he was a man of strong opinions. He loved his 1969 Barracuda and enjoyed attending Cruising the Coast (a yearly event he shared with his beloved brother, the late Daniel McMillin) and countless other local classic/muscle car events. The friends he made at these events, and in the groups that shared his love of classic cars, were an important part of his life. He will be laid to rest on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11:00am, at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell (at Camp Villere). There will be a brief on-site committal ceremony with complete military honors. Charles’s son, Robert McMillin, and his family, would like to invite friends to attend and pay final respects. Donations and volunteering are encouraged in lieu of flowers. Opportunities for both can be found at:

It’s about to go down, Slidell!! Come find us in the golf cart parade beginning at 2:00 and help us celebrate America’s 250th! Gonna be a hot one, but this ain’t our first rodeo, so wear sunscreen, stay hydrated (yes, with WATER lol), and have some fun with us today. (Also, any Disney Carousel of Progress fans catch the reference in the photos?)🧊🇺🇸

Come join us in Olde Towne as we celebrate our country’s 250th! We are #5 (-ish? 🤷🏻‍♀️) in the golf cart parade beginning at 2:00. Free family fun in Olde Towne for the 4th, including entertainment and contests, but please take note that there can be no canopies set up and no personal ice chests. Bring your chairs, definitely bring your sunscreen, and support your local food and drink vendors while you celebrate. We ♥️🤍💙 you Olde Towne and our hometown of Slidell!!!

Spend the 4th and celebrate America’s 250th right here with us in Olde Towne! We are riding in the golf cart parade, so give us a holler for some goodies to be tossed your way. We ♥️🤍💙 you Slidell!

For America's 250th birthday, we're celebrating the best way we know how: ice cream, hot dogs, and LOTS of fireworks. 🎆

Start your day at the Red, White, and Scoops: Ice Cream Social on the Geaux, hosted by Antique Umbrella Alley from 12pm-4pm. For just $5, guests can grab a wristband for access to cold and sweet treats at participating businesses throughout and around Antique Umbrella Alley on Erlanger and First St.

While enjoying your sweet treat, find a place to stand and watch as the "Celebrate America 250" Golf Cart Parade passes by at 2pm. The parade map can be found on the City of Slidell, Louisiana's page.

Finally, celebrate under the stars and with a beverage in hand with the Olde Towne Slidell Merchants Association.

Olde Towne's Schedule:
4:30 PM — Festivities begin
5:00 PM — Hot Dog Eating Contest
5:30 PM — Kids’ Watermelon Eating Contest
9:00 PM — Fireworks
Live music continues until midnight

Prepare to spend the evening wearing red, white, and blue right where you belong. 🇺🇸

⚠️ FLASH FLOODING RISK TONIGHt ⚠️

More storms are expected to develop this evening and continue into tonight.

Some storms could produce very heavy rain in a short amount of time, which means flash flooding is possible, especially since the ground is already soaked from the last few days of rain.

The challenge is that these storms will be scattered, so some areas may stay dry while others could see flooding. Right now, it’s difficult to predict exactly where the heaviest rain will fall.

What to expect if storms develop in your area:
• Heavy rainfall that could quickly flood streets
• Frequent lightning
• Wind gusts up to 50–60 mph
• Water rising in low-lying areas and drainage systems

Please stay weather aware this evening.

Do not drive through flooded streets. If you must drive, slow down and avoid creating wakes that can push water into homes.

Keep an eye on local weather updates and alerts.
