We are thrilled to announce that attorney Laurie W. Jones, Esq. is joining the firm. Ms. Jones’s family has been in the Searsport community for more than eight generations and she has almost forty years legal experience as a trial and appellate litigation attorney, as well as a law school professor and dean. Ms. Jones is admitted to practice in Maine and Oklahoma as well the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. She has represented individual and corporate clients in employment, civil rights, commercial law, and general tort cases. Her litigation experience includes cases at all levels of state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. At Oklahoma City University School of Law, she taught first-year and advanced legal research and writing, contract drafting, forensic evidence, and evidence in practice courses. Along with several other lawyers, she collaborated on the development of a Pro Se Waiver Divorce Docket Project at the district courthouse, which paired law students and volunteer lawyers to assist pro se litigants with legal documents and resources when pursuing uncontested divorce cases. She developed the law school’s Street Law program, which placed law students in local high school classrooms, with the goal of empowering high school students to be active, engaged citizens with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully participate in and create change in their communities. She also coached the Frederick Douglass and Constance Baker Motley Moot Court and Mock Trial Teams and authored the third edition of Oklahoma Trial Practice with two colleagues from the law school.She has received awards for pro bono service from the Oklahoma County and Oklahoma State Bar Associations, served on the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Access to Justice Committee, and volunteered with Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma for domestic violence victims. She looks forward to continuing our legacy of service and commitment to the people and businesses of Searsport, Waldo County and the surrounding communities. We are moving to a new location in Searsport. As of May 23rd we will be located at 167 E Main Street. The new office will offer my clients and staff a more comfortable and productive environment and an opportunity for future expansion of the legal services we offer people in this part of Maine. The big move is on Saturday May 21st and if you'd like to help or know someone who wouldn't mind earning a few extra bucks over a few hours then message me!
