From the red rocks of Arizona 🌵 to the innovation hubs of Utah ⛰️ and the nation’s capital in Washington D.C. 🏛️ — the future of law is already taking shape.

The National ABS Law Firm Association (NALFA) is the exclusive national trade association representing U.S. Alternative Business Structure (ABS) model law firms and the growing movement redefining legal services. ⚖️🚀

Here’s how these states are leading the way:
📍 Arizona — In 2020, Arizona became the first state to eliminate its version of ABA Model Rule 5.4, opening the door for non-lawyer ownership and investment in law firms.
📍 Utah — Utah launched its groundbreaking regulatory sandbox in 2020, allowing non-lawyer ownership and innovation-focused legal service models, now extended through 2027.
📍 Washington D.C. — D.C. has permitted a limited form of non-lawyer ownership in law firms since 1991, making it one of the earliest adopters of the ABS concept.

NALFA advocates for the positive impact ABS models can have on expanding access to affordable, high-quality legal services while encouraging innovation across the legal industry. And this may just be the beginning… 👀
